Has anyone ever heard of taking the back of the tooth and shaping to let chips out easier? Also shaping the underside of the cutter tooth. I guess it is more common in the hot saw race chains.
And this whole time I focused on the front of the tooth and the raker height. I feel like I am just getting a good handle on that and now this.

Hmm I deal in Oregon chains. I should look into this. Do you know what the prefix of the chain is going to be called? Ill check my books and see if something jumps out at me.

No I don't. My local dealer was telling me about it the other day. I'm going by there for a carb kit this afternoon and I'll get the name of it then.

Racers do so weird stuff - bear in mind that some of it is to make the chain cut faster, but not to make it last longer.

Cutting off the back of a cutter is called 'clipping', I believe, and clearing out under the cutter to improve chip flow is referred to as 'tunneling'.

Race chain makers will also try to file or grind off every gram of weight, including filing down rivet heads and removing chrome. There are several threads with additional details on Arboristsite if you 'Google' 'Race Chains'.

Again, not good practices for an average work chain.
