had a guy asking me about 661s etc. long story short he just got his 661 and it has this filter in it.

Since when has stihl started using a white material for their HD2s?

Anyone know the difference between the white material and the typical grey/black?

Are they putting white material in the HD2s that go in the 461 and 880?

seeing a lot of changes to the 661 lately. Makes my head hurt. :nut:

Stihl is messing with you Julian. They know you think you've got the best combination all figured out, so they're adding a bunch of new stuff so you have to start all over again.

I bought a 461 about a month and a half ago and it has the grey/black filter.

He's the unofficial 661 tester and he doesn't even know it...stihl probably waits for his threads.

They need to get rid of that radial seal and go back to the old style 660 setup. That would be a improvement and simple easy upgrade. Maybe a factory max flo type filter would be nice as well. Air injection would be too much work... complete redesign in the least probably.

Isnt it kinda pathetic you gotta dish out that extra money in 2018 for a chainsaw filter...
Its *B-S..... You would think that at this point in time they would design a better system even for purely selfish reasons, like to avoid warranty claims.

Believe it or not like car air filters it's been proven that the white element filters flow better than most others and still provide great protection of fine particles so maybe that's what there thinking is but I could be wrong but that's my opinion.

I compared my MS661 (white) filter and my MS241 (dark gray) filter which is the smaller round one. Material looks to be exactly the same other than color. Even the lines in the filter material are the same. Doesnt mean they are the same but visually other than color material looks identical. Looks to be same thickness also. Not sure why stihl went to the white. Maybe easier to tell when filter is dirty??? Not sure but I already ordered a maxflow so...

Not much different when you buy a car. Many people will update their air filter setups to one that flows better. Same with tires, owner changes tires and rims to what they want and that perform better. Just kinda the way it is.

Putting a set of rims and tires on my truck makes no difference on how I get to work other than to look cool and waste gas...I still got there just the same.

Putting a max flow on a 661 makes a big difference in efficiency and let's the saw live longer from not dying of ingestion..big difference.
