For those interested in trivial stuff:

I put both the OEM 044 12 mm crank, and a Asian 440 crank on the postal scale. To my surprise, the OEM crank is a bit lighter.

OEM 15.2 oz, AM 15.4 oz.

If I were to speculate where the difference is, the counterbalances on the OEM just look to be finished better.

Don't trust published weights, I think they are both (460 + 7900) close to 14.75 lbs.

That is why I like the 440 platform so much, 14 lbs +/- (depending on the saw).

When limbing, or moving around a lot on a log pile, I really notice the difference. I'm sure other people have different thresholds.

I prefer the 461 over the 046/044 personally. Less hard on fuel. Torque is very good as well.

I don't know about that. I've bucked a lot of Oak and Hickory on less than one tank with my 044, and it has a smaller tank than a 460/461.

I'd take that challenge with my 044 any day.

461 with only mm is very good on gas compared to a 046. I’m sure once you port it eats more gas like they all do. I can go 15-20min on a tank with the 7900 after t/a and mm so it’s decent as well.

Have you done any mods to the 044?

No port work to that saw, but at the time of that cutting: HD-2 air filter, dp muffler cover, timing advance (.020) and base gasket delete. This was just a strong saw out of the box (a red lever 10 mm), and I've owned it since new in 12/92.

You will have to show me that next time we see each other. The one I used to own is still next door, so I'm sure I could retrieve it if I wanted to.

Gotta see if they can fix my stomach muscles that separated and also take care of another issue for which I need a biopsy for :(
Not looking forward to that one either.
Nervous but trying to stay positive. It’s not really working tho

For you port nerds out there (like me), this jug was done a bit different.

Modified 272 piston to keep reciprocating assembly as light/lighter than an 044 assembly.

Mike likes to really lean on saws, so this jug is timed at 103.5/122 with a rounded intake floor from 76-80.

Goal is an o44 with 046 torque.

How much was cut from the band? Or did you cut the piston? Or use a spacer?

Awesome numbers IMO. It should pull like a train.

Very sorry to hear about your difficulties Jeremy. My Brother endured several intestinal surgeries, to the point he told the Doctors he was not going to do this again. I know he came up with some methods of preventing adhesions (when intestine stick to the stomach lining) that horrified his Doctors, but they worked.

If you think talking with him could help you in any way, shoot me a PM and I'll put you two in touch. He has chronic issues, but he deals with them, and has seen numerous Doctors in search for answers.

It is all the result of food poisoning on an airline, but there was no way to prove it.
