I'm looking for some help with a 1/2hp vintage Peerless motor. It's on a Logan lathe and is reversible running a drum switch. When I got it it was pretty rough looking. I cleaned up the lathe and rewired the switch per the manual as the wiring was all cut off. After getting it running it is very smooth in reverse but in forward it is noisy and heats up quickly. I tore it down and cleaned and checked the inside. I also cleaned up the "point" on the centrifugal starter. After reassembly it runs the same. Before tear down I did run it a little and when pulled apart, the rotor was hot. Not sure if that helps... I'm hoping to use this, but I'm leaning toward a repower with a forward only motor. I'll likely not use reverse much if ever.

This is a good cross section of what mine looks like inside and out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
