1:16 twist with 62-72gr bullets??? Sounds a bit under-stabilized, even for lighter bullets.

:worship2: I'm going to build another ar (gave other one to my brother) mind if hit u up with some questions when that time comes?

300 Blackout is a good choice for a conversion since they are the same length as .223 and can even use the same mags. I have a Sig in 300 and it's really fun to shoot and much more accurate than .223 for sub 200, but who shoots over 200 often?

If I was going to get another one I'd probably get a long receiver in 308, but they are much more expensive.

6.5 Creedmoor is a great cartridge and not picky to reload for ! I have an AR10 in 6.5 Creed w/24" barrel, with adjustable gas block turned down when SiCo Omega suppressor on it, it's like shooting a BB gun - sorry, none of this anything to do with the original post.....

I'm probably the only crazy one to shoot 223 to 600. Need to get it ready to try 800.

I shoot NRA Midrange(600 yd) High Power rifle competition as well as Long Range (1,000 yd) with 223 AR15, it is capable as well as competitive. same amount of wind drift as a 168 gr 308 Win.
I've seen several 308's in 1,000 yard matches go subsonic before the bullet got to 1,000, leaves a cool looking keyhole shaped hole in the target because the bullet is tumbling.

I've not shot a 223 past 600. Next time I go I'll try it. I've got 69 grain SMK loaded.

the bullet of choice for 223 at 600 and beyond is an 80gr SMK, if you reload....
of course these can't be loaded to mag length, you have to single feed these into the rifle

I don't get much of a chance to shoot long distances. Most public ranges near me are a little over 100 yards, there is one 45 min north that is 200. I've done around 250 with a .177 HMR of a friends just to see what it could do. Most of the time it's 75-125 with a 12g rifled slug.

Yep. I can mag length load these 69. 75 grain Hornady fits as well. I can shoot 850 easily. Im looking for a place to go 11-1200

don't forget 77r SMK
if you're ever going through Missouri, Sierra is in Sedalia....they sell blems by the pound for a significant savings. it's awesome to see 55gal drums full of bullets ! By blem it's only cosmetic, they didn't shine up as pretty. I love leaving there with 25 lbs of bullets !!!!!!
assuming you are shooting with scope, you may run out of elevation before hitting at 1,000.....most scopes do, requires a scope base with elevation built into it (preferable 20 moa)

My next bolt gun is going to be a 6.5 Creedmoor, probably a Remington 700 or Weatherby Vanguard. Will it necessarily do anything better than my heavy barrel .257 Roberts? Probably not, but still a very cool cartridge.
