You could have it all powder coated, just need to find good plastics.
When I port them I use a 395 piston and a wj-70 carb. I can make it fit with the stock filter or a v-stack on a 288 low top filter neck.

My God, those part prices are insane. Sometimes patience pays off in these saw searches. And often it's cheaper to find a saw you can make perfect than to pay silly money for the perfect saw. Prices are always driven up when dealing in the collector arena. The prices of those 2100 parts kind of fall into the "gouging" bracket IMO I sell most NOS stuff for last published list price. No need to hammer guys all the time.

I built my other 2100 that you ran with the 395 piston. This one is completely stock thin ring. Since building it I have found a few more nos bits to put on it.

Intake block, block grommet, carb adjuster grommet and correct starter handle. When these parts go on I plan on blasting the dogs and spring and gun blueing those parts.

I like that approach. I may travel two paths, build a decent runner while I also stockpile really nice parts for a restoration kinda like Bob mentioned. And always keep my eye out.
