Nice! Prettier than mine, and I thought mine was relatively low-mileage!

Is that a serial number 1,2, or 3 saw?

Weather they might be listed as a dinosaur is strictly a matter of opinion. In my opinion that series was Stihls best effort .I guess I'm a dino myself because I'd take an 038 mag over an 044 any day of the week .

Plenty of torque for the size, easy to work on ,easy to find parts both OEM and AM .Very easy to modify .Very dependable .

Weak link rear upper left side annular buffer .The rubber goes to hell after a while allowing the engine too much rotation in the mounting which tears the intake boot on the bottom side ,air leak .The tear is so small you about need to remove the boot to find it .

Beautiful saw John.

I see the complete confusion about a saw that clean. I don't know if I'd cut wood with it, but then at the same time, what's the point in owning it.

My buddy is a pro landscaper and has been using an 038M for 25+ years without a hitch. He's never even touched the carb screws, and he's on his 5th or 6th 28" Rollomatic.

His is a Brazil "3" SN Mag I saw that he bought new. Spent over $1000 in (IIRC) 1987. Whatever year it was, the advertisement pamphlet in the box listed the 044 as a "new model".
