In my opinion the 1127 series Stihls are some of the best non pro saws made. It is a little on the heavy side but plenty of power after you open up the muffler a bit. Good oilers that are EZ to make oil more if needed.

would've voted for 025/ms250 if it was on the list.

There are many 'best' options by various brands depending on ones needs, budget & what's available to them at what price. I agree in the US the echo 590 is tough to beat, but where I'm from there a $1k saw so next to nobody owns them.

I think most of the Stihl farm and ranch line are great saws. I know a tree service that uses 025/250 and 290 and 390s.

I watch my local craigslist and several years ago I found a Stihl 440 for around 300. Same weight as the 290/390 but pro grade and 70cc class.

If a CS-590 is a 1k saw down under, how much is a comparable Stihl or Husky?

I have an 029Super and an MS310. They both have 20" bars and get a lot of use. My 046 Magnum will cut much faster, but it wears this old man out faster also.
