I've put quite a bit of run time on my 500i since receiving it last month. I've put 12-15 tanks through it easily. I honestly really like it.

The filtration is not my favorite, as it's old tech on a new tech saw. The air injection on the 462 is far superior. Air injection would have made this saw an A+, IMO.

AV is real soft. I've got a video of it somewhere where I take the nose of a 20" bar on the Dolmar 79XX and the 500i and manipulate the AV. The 500 is noticeably softer.

It's good for nice comfortable cutting. I'm just not sure on how much abuse it will take. I've read about a few instances where guys were roughing the 462 up and broke AV mounts.

I'm sure it's a cheap and easy fix, but again, for the price of these two saws they shouldn't have to be put in the truck while the backup saw handles the cutting duties.

If I were a full time logger, I'd probably throw my money at a 572XP if I wanted a 70-80cc saw. Arborist duties are where the 462 and 500i shine IMO.
I think the husky has competitive performance and durability for the $ compared to the stihls. It’s interesting how husky has gone for there version of a stihl 460 albeit smoother and better filtration. I like that.

How is the 572 like a 460 other than horsepower rating?

Power reminds me a lot of one, good pull and midrange power for the displacement. 046/460 is pretty smooth for a rubber av saw. 572 is super smooth. 046/460 focuses a little more on durability and torque over the 44. 572 focus a little more on durability and torque over 372. I feel like the 462 is there version of a 372OE.

This is an assessment I can totally get behind. When I was running the 572 I remember thinking to myself its the most sthil feeling Husky I've ever run. Balance, power, and weight felt very similar to a sthil 460. That's a big compliment to the 572 really.

I agree, 046/460 has to be one of the best saws stihl made. 572 seems to have several improvements over it and retains the good qualities about a 046/460.

Doesn't the 572 weigh about the same as a 372? I thought the 572 was very well balanced, I don't remeber anybody describing a 460 as a well balanced saw but maybe my memory is going.

I’ll quote myself... “572 seems to have several improvements over it and retains the good qualities about a 046/460”.

That's great, I'm not surprised … and you must really like the weight savings!
Yes, it is very nice, especially with it being pretty brushy. I should add that it is not ported. I took the baffle out of the muffler, opened up the stock port, and added another port.

I did less to mine. Just pulled the muffler cover, left the baffle alone, drilled 2 - 1/4" holes on the high right of the cover.

Saw is very snappy and pulls very well. I run a 20" light bar on it, but it is mostly in Hardwoods (in fact, it has never seen an evergreen)!

It is great for bucking and limbing.

To be honest, I was pretty skeptical of the 462 at first, but it has pleasantly surprised me.
