Tough call, as we are in the blind as to how long the wait will be.

Hey, just think, you could bring it in to your local Stihl dealer for service, and they will look at you like your from Mars!

Priceless!
he saw it today but he knew i was trying to get one. he was excited to see it in the flesh and photos were taken :) but saddened i didn't buy it from him( which i cant till next year sometime).
i guess i am one of the lucky ones that has a dealer that's up with it and as excited about new stuff coming from Stihl as me!

yup.. 28" would be the biggest i would stick on this.. even the 661 feels a bit doughy with the 32 when it comes to side cuts. fine for blocking.
Yep 28" max if in a bind. But max for me would be 22".
32" on a mid size pro saw is for the PNW softwood end user. One reason why Stihl never put spring mounts on the MS461.

My question is Vince "how firm are the MS462 spring mounts compared to your 441?"

they sold it to me with a 20" light sabre bar. so 20 24 25 and 32 i have that will fit it. would have liked a 28 has i dont have one of those yet!

I think a 20" light bar would be about perfect. That saw runs so nice outta the box & appears very maneuverable. It sounds like 14k-ish no load rpm. Zip-zip-zip.
i'll see if my AM tacho can read its rpm. never tried on a CM saw. rumour was they didn't work .
i guess 20 to 24 for this saw if 16 to 18 is great on a 261. this saw would make a 362 redundant i feel if they are so close on weight.

What does Stihl recommend for max bar length?

they dont really recommend.
just says in the catalogue for instance, both 441 and 461 20" bar comes standard.
a 660 20 or 25" bar and 661 25 or 30".
i guess you can order it with whatever bar you want tho.

I thought they would at least mention what it could oil. I don't mind running a longer bar on a smaller saw. A few less pounds vs a few extra seconds in the cut is fine by me. Of course I'm not a logger and only cut stuff for the fun of it.

Ok. In my humble non certified opinion going from softest to firmest we have; ..........drum roll please.
241 closely followed by
261. A close battle but
441
661 then
462 and the winner for the strongest stiffy
461
But only just.

Thanks for your report Vince!
That's what I figured 3 years ago when looking at my pics of the 462.
Stiff AV system.
That heavy verticle mounted spring is the same design Husqvarna uses on my 395XP.
