Can anyone tell me if the 1128 1312 coil is limited or unlimited.. it’s been bugging me for ages

I ordered/ brought one from a not so good seller off fleabay, and this coil turned up.. I’ve had dealings with him before, where I brought a oem trimmer spool, he sent an AM. Yes I got him to send me what I brought,(edit: I got a stroppy email saying it’s all made in China)but then he blacklisted me so I had to make myself a new buyers name. And I really could be bothered chasing a coil with a different part number when it works...

I fitted it it runs ok but I don’t really have anything to compare it to.. I’ve have been reading and thinking of trying and comparing a 260 coil

I think most of these coils have very similar running characteristics. I replaced a OEM coil on a ported 10mm 044 with an AM 460 coil and the saw started and ran just the same as it did before.

Thanks for that correction Dave, I was just thinking 044/440/046/460/461. Some of the 064/066s did have limited coils … did not know about the 660s.

The 064/066s also have some different flywheels and timing #s (different key locations).

For the heck of it , I put a tach on the 461 with the original coil and it reads fine at idle but when I hit the go fast button it never read above 7k Rpm. I was trying to see if I could get it to about 12k rpm and then lean it from there but I could never get a reading above 7k. Would that be normal for a limited coil?
The saw is tuned now. It feels strong in the cut and has a little gurgle while cutting. It's probably a bit rich. But I'm gonna leave it for now.

@MustangMike I used your recommendation for the high and low screw and it was just about dead on. Thanks.

Do you have any other saws to test your tacho on.? I would say your using a wrong tacho for the task involved....
I say this because I got one sent that was wrong. You need a 20k tacho..

I've got a fast tac and it does the same on a 461 and works fine on my other saws .

I used it on an echo top handle and it worked like a charm.

I believe the limited coils do not provide accurate #s, 7,000 is way too low, but don't trust the reading.

The saw should "clean up" in the wood, but better a little to rich than too lean. If the saw idles smoothly, responds well and fells strong in the cut, that is what matters.

Glad the settings were helpful to get you in the ball park.

You can always put a 460 coil on the 461 and have an unlimited operation saw, just don't run it too lean if you do that. With an unlimited coil you want just a little break up at WOT and immediate clean up in the wood.
