You think the recoil will crank 250 psi with a working decomp? Or just go on fuel and low comp high volume motor. Either way

Got a few. Lol

Yeah, running someone's stock chainsaw with a poorly filed chain is boring. I couldn't run a stock chainsaw anymore, I don't want to 'cut', I want to feel the chain 'zip' through the wood.

I figure trying to sneak up on someone on this forum with a 'sleeper' would be a hard ask. There's easier prey out there...

Lol. I hear you sir.
I didnt make the statement regarding the 390 whooping a 460s arse. Lol
I seriously doubt that a plain jane 390 with a pop-up piston will stay with a 460. Not unless the 390 will be all done up and made into a 15 second square wood cutting cookie cutter. Lol

My 460 had 250 before it was brought down to 200. Lol

Sixteen degrees of blowdown with thirty percent dip, a fat carb, lose some flywheel fins, a lil port work and your 460 is toast. We have not even discussed the "pop up" yet. What about timing and combustion chamber mods. Maybe a boot or some other ridiculous part like a tuned intake V stack. Did I hit on any cool stuff yet? Stickers

Are you sure about that statement you made?

I'll limit my compression and timing to stock for you. That should handy-cap me a little bit :)

This all started about the 390 with a pop up piston against a stock 460. Its gotten out of hand. Do anything you want to your 390. Knock yourself out. Maybe do some nitrous too while your at it. Ceramic bearings. Go for it.

Not a chance. The 029/390 needs a lot of work just to develop its potential. The ignition timing is all over the place from the factory 23.5-28.5 so it has to be dialed in. Then there is the crappy air filter, that needs to be completely reworked in order to breath. Perhaps re-jet the carb for more torque.

I use the .325NK chain on a 20" bar. It doesn't appear that anybody makes one to fit on a Stihl. There is pico available, but I think the maximum bar length is 16". - Putting a Husky K095 bar on the 029 takes too much work for the average guy. You need to make up a front chain tensioner, make another oil groove on the saw, drill a new oil hole, turn down the bar studs, grind the tail of the bar, grind the adjustment holes different and a few other things.

If you can pick up an extra 15-20% of cutting speed with a NK bar and chain change, then a modded 390 is getting close. I wonder if anyone has tried Pico on a 390.

If'n you're on a jaunt about the country, would you mind swinging by Stihl HQ, and giving someone a swift kick in their hind end?

VB, VA is a far Piece.

What’s the Skinny?
