I don't have any stock vidja's either, but have to say to get a good ported saw, you need to start with a good stock one and the MS361 is a good one no doubt about that. Sure there's other good ones out there too that have all been mentioned already, but you won't be in bad shape with a 361 by any means.
Here's one I did recently with a round ground work chain.

That’s interesting Mason. The 254/357/262 shootout showed the 262 was fastest, but not by much compared to a 357; although both the 262 and 357 were non stock.

Also, a stock 562 is pretty well agreed to be faster than a stock 262. And although I don’t have experience with Dolmar, I’ve seen several people claim the 6100 has more torque and is faster than a 562.

So to say a 6100 @ 61cc isn’t any faster than a 357xp @ 56.5cc is really saying something, but kind of ignores the whole 262/562 being faster than a 357 and slower than a 6100.
The guy that did the shootout between 254/357/262 is a hack, I wouldn’t trust anything that mfer does. Lol

I think his name is James or Josh or Joe or something... starts with a J I think, like the Joker that he is.

Do you think the 361 is stronger out of the box than a 360?

I've ran both at different times but never close enough to notice.

I have an 360 Pro with a broken case....brake pin is tore out. I'll test it against a stock 361 sometime. Then test them with a muffler mod on both. I suspect the 360 will do better with a 24-5" bar. For sure with a 28"...been there, did that. 8 pin 16-18" hooked to a 361 is hard to beat in a 57-60cc class.
I can add in the bone stock, maybe not broke in yet, 036 Just for fun. :D

Selling a 361 next week. Sad day coming :(

036/360’s have more low end torque than 361’s. It’s the nature of the dual port vs. quad design, the duals generally get more low end grunt and less high end power than quads.

I can only really comment on the ones I’ve ported, but the 036 will lug much better low down. The 361’s are Zippier with more high end. The 361 also feel slower than the 036 because the AV is better. A ported 036 will feel more “violent” than a 361, but in most cases actually be slower through the wood. It’s personal preference I believe, as 1-2 seconds through a log doesn’t make much difference in the real world, it’s how much you enjoy cutting with a particular saw. Fast isn’t the only factor.

Interesting. I always thought my 361 had a lot of "grunt," but I haven't run enough different saws to really have a basis for comparison. Is the MS660 a dual port or quad design (or none of the above)?

As far as the 361/036 debate.
I’ll take an 034 super over either
Maybe for weight to power but no-contest on AV....361 wins there. I like to see your 034 with a 20" held by the handlebar only. Balance is better on the 361 imo.
Ported and warmed over 036, 360P and the 361 should be a fun comparison this winter.

Most of that stuff doesn’t matter to me, it’s a chainsaw

Run one thirty hours a week or more then report back in six months.
I let Mason chime in here @huskyboy

Now remember he is less than half my age. He runs saws all day everyday in Appalachia hardwoods like I do most times.
