Not to start something but the Stihl was definitely faster than the echo, not a ton but was faster and dragging more bar and chain. 16” vs 20” I’m guessing?
A stock 6100 wasn’t any faster than the stock 357xp I compared it to. It did have a bit more grunt, while the 357 has more rpms. I do hate the small bar mount on both of them. Medium mount stihl or large mount husky I prefer. The echos take a odd and inconvenient bar mount. The 590 has great torque for bucking, but it’s not as responsive for limbing and topping as some. 60cc needs to be good at both.
Cuts that are within a second of each other are well within the margin of error imo. That’s interesting Mason. The 254/357/262 shootout showed the 262 was fastest, but not by much compared to a 357; although both the 262 and 357 were non stock.
Also, a stock 562 is pretty well agreed to be faster than a stock 262. And although I don’t have experience with Dolmar, I’ve seen several people claim the 6100 has more torque and is faster than a 562.
So to say a 6100 @ 61cc isn’t any faster than a 357xp @ 56.5cc is really saying something, but kind of ignores the whole 262/562 being faster than a 357 and slower than a 6100.
I'll remember that next time I race someoneCuts that are within a second of each other are well within the margin of error imo.
Muffler gut, dual ports and a gasket delete....those have to be the biggest two mods on most pro saws to wake them up. Few saws don't respond well to those mods. 361 does very well with those two mods.Cuts that are within a second of each other are well within the margin of error imo.
Fine tuning, carb out to rich, air filter not clean, maybe its down on compression .There’s no way a 590 will out cut a 361. My dad has a 590 although a decent saw it’s not close to the 361 anywhere

Mine's a first year model, 2011 I think & never a single issue with it. Not a ton of hours on it, but using it more lately than ever before. They get loud quick though. I opened mine up under the factory deflector and she picked up both in power and loudness. It probably helped with heat too.
Mine was a 2014 with the el44 carb. Never had a problem with it. Idled and reved nicely. I cut with it on the hottest, humid days and always restarted.

If you prefer a manual tune carb in a proven saw, the ms361 and 262xp are probably as good as they come in the 60cc class. If auto tune, fewer emissions, & better fuel economy are required, I suppose the newer saws have advantages. I use saws mostly for thinning & firewood on our 21 acres, so old school is good enough. There just isn’t anything in the 60cc class right now that I could see myself going away from the 361 and ported 2159 I have in that C.C. right now....
Old school has always been, good enough. Carry a small screwdriver and know how to use it. Mtron is better imo than not. Autotune seems good now also.If you prefer a manual tune carb in a proven saw, the ms361 and 262xp are probably as good as they come in the 60cc class.
