With a new echo he has to buy new bars, not to mention you can't even use a 72 driver chain on a 20" bar, it's a bad choice.

We got a new 501 and 355 a few months back..they don't do anything for me performance wise, but they are pretty reliable.

Can always sell the 70dl stuff and get a bar adapter and be back in business

I’m with you I haven’t run any other echo saws that were very impressive but the 620 is the exception to me. The 590 is worlds above the Competition in the farm saw market to me though. I haven’t run a 501 but the 500 was a dog. If he is is cuttin firewood the 590 is pretty solid for that.

With the adaptor he could run all his stihl bars/chains.

Ya...tree service guys do that stuff..lol.

Like i said, id buy a 361 or a new version 362 with a standard carb and get back to work.
I might be going out on a limb here but since he dealing with the OP and not a Stihl shop I figured he would do some mixing and matching to get to work.

With the adaptor he could run all his stihl bars/chains.
that's what I'm saying.

I have to admit the Echo is the best bang for the buck IMO, lots of tree services are going to echo, simple to operate, tough as nails. Very fairly priced, save a few hundred easily over a 562/362.

You know what a few hundred bucks is to most tree services? .. nothing...there are days we do 5-7 grand and we aren't even that big.

Bang for your buck applies to an occasional firewood cutter who's on a budget, dealer support is where its at for service guys.

We have 2 great echo dealers here, couple hundred bucks x 20-30 saws adds up.

20-30 saws ?.. we bought 6 in the last year and the gorilla's i work with destroy everything.

The savings on those saws or lack there of is chump change.

As long as it works and we have good support is what matters, along with bar compatibility and parts saws to swap with.

Lets hypothetically say those 6 saws were 300 bucks more than a competitor..thats 1800 bucks, alot to you..nothing to my boss.

We can buy 362s for 625 bucks..how much is a 620 ?

Im well aware of that, but the likelihood of it is slim with a service guy..unless he's an online chainsawer..

Not likely at all with most/any service.

Only reason I mentioned it is the simple fact the fella is wanting to repair a 10-15 year old saw for use again.

Where like you said most services would just grab a new saw that matches the bars/chain they already use.

400$+ 10$ adaptor 590

500-550$ + 10$ for a 620
