2193B00A-3DA5-483C-B4C8-E91443C433D0.jpeg i got this Saw in a bunch of saws from a dealer.
Had 120psi compression, pressure and vac were good.
Piston was toasted 270 degrees around
Aside from that, Saw seems nearly new.
Replaced the piston and rings and the soft good in the HD39 carb.

I can get it to start with the choke on but screams straight to the top. Sounds like 14k+ without the bar and chain on. Probably higher.
I’m avoiding that maneuver
I have gotten it to start on fast idle and it’ll run as long as I feather the throttle. Finger off and it dies. So maybe it needs some tuning for the period of it. But I can’t get there without the choke step, which I want to avoid.

It’s not a C version. Well there’s no C on the flywheel cover. And I’ve had someone mention the fuel solenoid.

Any ideas?

That means you put in new diaphragms and gaskets? Did you check and set the height of the metering lever in the carburetor? Could be misadjusted and therefore not enough fuel coming in.
Also did you replace the intank pickup body and the strainer in the carburetor? Carburetor is cleaned?
Did you check if the impulse signal is present and strong enough?

Sounds like solenoid is stuck open. Seen it once maybe twice. Need to do a fuel solenoid leak test

Carb was cleaned and diaphragms and gaskets replaced as well as the screen.
Did not change the fuel filter.
Impulse and intake boot subject to the vac and pressure test, so I’d say there good.
I’m going to look into the solenoid closer.
Thanks

Also might want to update the solenoid

Also replace the fuel filter, even if it looks clean. It`s importand to have a non restricted fuel flow. As backhoelover already stated with the solenoid valve: If it`s damaged, replace it, should be still availible. If not, take the current black one from the m-tronic models.

Some saws like the 441 you cannot put the newer white solenoid in. Your stuck with the black one unfortunately, although updating to the newer orange fuel filter should help it live longer.

Thanks again.
Where’s a good place to get one. I’ve looked and I’m find Stihl is kind of a secret. Not as sharing as Huskqvarna.

A good dealer should be able to order it for you. Just a warning... one for a 441 cost me 40$! It’s the black knob thing on the side of the carb. T10 safety torx bit with the hole in the middle is all you need I believe and maybe a t15/t20 torx driver. Be careful not to contaminate it installing it. I’d take a picture of it assembled so you remember how the new one goes in.

A Part number would have been nice

Solenoid valve for the MS 280I is: 0000 120 5100
Fuel pickup body in the tank is: 0000 350 3518

Before you order or replace the valve verify if it is functioning. The resistance between the open short circuit wire and ground wire should be between 30 and 38 ohms.

I was thinking about replacing my 441c solenoid or fit a 441 carb.
Thought I could get a later solenoid though but you may well be right huskyboy.
Arn't the black ones being phased out?Or is that for the 661?
Don't know a lot about mtronics, so good to learn off you guys.

It depends on the carburetor (and/or control unit) which valve can be used, in most cases. For the MS 441 C-M only the 0000 120 5110 (black version) can be used.

The older MS 661 C-M carburetor can be updated with the new solenoid valve in conjunction with the new fuel filter and newer control unit.

The cases are different between the 441c and normal carbed 441. Some good reading in this thread https://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/ms-441-m-tronic-conversion.323726/ ... Have to rebuild practically the entire saw to convert it. They still make the black solenoids.

34 ohms

Does that mean it’s functioning?

It could be electrically “working” but there could be contamination internally. Just a hunch.

Is the intake boot ripped? 1133's have notoriously spongy a/v and rip intake boots easily. Did the saw hold pressure and vacuum?
