Well, found the cause who would have thought a MS261 with machine marks still on the piston could have taken the bearing retainer out and destroyed the seal. Lesson learned to check pressure before throwing parts at it. But seriously, a 261 with bearing and seal problems. That seems a little young for that problem.

Dull chain and a heavy hand can do some damage right quick.

Well it’s giving me an excuse to replace seals and while it’s totally broken down do the deep clean. Looks like I’m keeping this one and letting my 026 pro go.

Well, real *s-word show of a saw, replaced bearing, seal, cleaned the dang thing, put it together. Fueled it up. Then no spark. Heard these 261s have a little coil issue. Replaced it with a coil from a 271 and it literally fired and ran perfect on the 1st pull. This saw was not mine as I just acquired it this week. Turns out 026 clutch side bearing is the same but different part number as the 261.

Now I have a mean wood eating machine!

Not sure if I missed it, but is your 261 mtronic or regular carb?

Regular carb. Which brings up a point. Anyone ordering the 261 carb on HLsupply should know you will need to take a little cut off saw to the L side adjustment cover as it binds in the internals of the saw.

Well another chainsaw with bearing and seal problems. That seems a little young for that.

two to three minutes should be long enough. Hey, just tighten the chain up real good. You don't really need oil in that other tank.
Since we had to fire the previous one, you are Pres again!
I should have never kept that 435. Live and learn :)

Lots of newer saws use plastic cages. They seem to be less tolerant of dull chains and heat I would imagine. I’m sure with richer oil mix ratio, keep the chain sharp... it’ll be fine.
