Mine is .029-.030 completely stock. That’s twisting .032 solder through the plug hole with my ancient caliper.

How thick is a factory base gasket?
You could make a thinner gasket out of this stuff if it’s too tight with deleting it. 5 bucks at napa. It worked well reinforced with 518 on a 2253(550xp) and 7900 I used it on. 5385472B-48FE-43C5-B677-AD83F2E03B2C.jpeg1D338F8A-CB76-4998-8FE2-5EA57DCDC501.png F930F38B-62ED-4BB7-82B4-081DD085D476.jpeg

Interesting coil arrangement on this saw. View attachment 149625
I’m not a fan of that on the 421 either. But it doesn’t seem to hurt anything unless you were to drastically lower the cylinder. Base delete you’ll probably just have to set the gap again?

one of the problems with the coil being mounted like it is on the 421 is that there are no other options of coils to use.

The ported one that I had really would have shined with more rpm. Don’t get me wrong, it was really impressive for a 40ish cc saw, but another 1000rpm would have been something to see.

"Base gasket delete" tends to frighten me. Are you also not using any gasket sealer, such as Permatex? To me, that's a requirement. I have had to rebuild a bunch of burned-out saws that have no gasket sealer and no base gasket. Instead they were assembled bare metal to bare metal and ran lean. Please advise and TIA.

Delete stock thick base gasket and use sealant.

Are you saying it hit the limiter in wood?

Don't you think centrifugal force is giving you a false reading?

Under load of compression things would be "different" no?
Not unless you’ve got a very loose pin or rod bearing. No, I do not.

I do believe the natural springback of the solder gives people a falsely high reading. When I use .024 solder in a saw with 20 squish, I’d swear I missed my mark. I can’t even feel the piston hitting the solder. Do the spinny spin, and I’m at 18 all of the sudden.

It’s the multiple crushes I feel that makes the difference.

And easy way to test it is to squish the solder with a micrometer. Let it sit for a bit, retest. The more solder and more micrometers in that study, the larger the sample and accuracy.
