Just got myself a brand new 461r. I was wondering from you guys that have them, how close do your oil and fuel tanks run out? In the manual it states that with the h/o oiler you can run out of bar oil substantially faster than fuel. Have you found this to be the case? If so, do you simply only fill the fuel tank 1/2 way or what is your solutions. Thanks fellas.

Ive never see ln any stihl or husky saw suck the oil tank dry with a oem ho oiler. Ive had modded pumps do it tho. I see oem stihl pumps use 2 tanks of fuel to 90-95% of 1 tank of oil new. Seen them taken to the dealer and they say its fine. The custo brings them to me. I sneak up on modding the pump till it used 1:1.

My ported 395 and the modded 394 here run 1/1 with the gas with the stock oil pumps set to max.

How does the Stihl OEM HO oiler work as compared to the oiler pump mod? Which one puts more oil on the bar?

My stock-ish 660 mm and .019squish, it will run out of oil with a 1/4 tank of fuel, I have to fill it 5/8 to 3/4 full and it’s perfect... the first 2 tanks I owned the saw chain went dry with fuel in the tank, it took the second tank to learn it had a great Oiler! Lol

My ms461r which comes standard with ho Oiler does not run out of oil before fuel with the Oiler set to max. Theres maybe a 1/4 tank left, possibly a little less with Oiler set to max. I leave it on max wether there’s a 20 inch or 32 inch bar on the saw.

It’s .2mm more stroke than stock. If you go more than that and open passages you can run out of oil faster than that. On my ported 66s and 46s they always ran out of fuel first with a tiny bit of oil left

Sounds about right Mike. You mod the Oilers on all of them?

I wonder why they are so expensive these days? [emoji848]
Shouldn't really be any more expensive to produce.

Are there any mods to increase the oiling with the stock HO oil pump? I've run a few tanks of fuel through this now and with a 28" bar and the oiler maxed it leaves the chain a little drier than I'd prefer and leaves maybe an 1/8 to 1/4 left in the oil tank. It will just barely spray any oil mist off the tip. Barely.

What bar are you running? On a lot of the Stihl bars, I open up the oiler hole it the bar, it is just too small! I would try that first.

If your oiler is running dry before it runs out of fuel, just turn it down a bit … but I don't think that will happen (running out of oil).

That and/or a grinder. Often the drill bits want to break off in that hole, go slow + careful, bars are hardened steel (also, use a quality bit or it will not get it done).
