As I asked, is the quality of the meteor
Jug and piston worth the higher cost if someone was gonna use the saw alot.

I built one with a 20.00 ebay jobbie cylinder kit
3 years ago.
He has used it alot and it is still running great.
The comp was 150 and i didn't have to clean up the cylinder the ports were fine.
I've built 2 with the 79.00 complete 390 ebay engine's about 2 years ago still in use today.
Never tried a meteor 390 kit though.

When I converted an 029 to a 390, on the advice of another member, I just used the low cost Huztl kit, they seem to have this one down right. The kit is so cheap, I almost could not believe it worked so well.

I sold it to someone (cheap) with full knowledge of the parts used. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago, it is his primary firewood saw, and he loves it. He also has an 041, but says the 390 is lighter & faster.

I also did a little muffler mod and timing advance which may have helped.

I did one also. . Used caber rings
And did a muffler mod and timing advance.
It worked good, I just wondered
If the meteor would last longer,
A middle ground replacement compared
To buying a stihl engine

Yea, but even with OEM parts, they don't go for big bucks. Just take it off the price, and let them run it first.

Mike, that advice giver might have been me. I still have that upgraded 390 and it runs today. It's the best big "loan-out" saw I have. Nobody can kill it, so I never sold the saw and keep it for a loaner, strong enough to pull 3/8" pitch chain and a 25" bar upon command.

There is anther member also, I remember who he is, but he gave the advice in a PM, so I leave it there. Advice was spot on though.

The pistons are made in Italy and the cylinders are finished there.
