I've been looking at these kits for a couple of years now wanting to build one. A combination of the Minnesota winter, my back and neck problems have kept my cooped up too long so I ordered an MS 360 Kit from HL Supply tonight. I have been watching videos and reading as much as I can find about the MS 360 Kit so I can get to it when it gets here. What extras should I have on hand to assemble this saw? Things like sealer etc etc... I am not planning at putting many OEM parts into the saw until I see what I get.

I've never done a 360 (but nice choice), but I put OEM piston pin bearings and piston clips in ALL of my kit saws.

I also flush all the bearings with WD-40 as soon as I work on em. Many folks claim the bearings are faulty (and they are likely less strong than OEM), but the problem is they often have grit in them that needs to be flushed. I would not turn a bearing W/O thoroughly spraying it with WD-40 first.

If you are going to use their jug, I would make sure all ports are properly chamfered (especially check the surfaces you can't see, like the bottom of the exhaust), and I would spring for either an OEM or Meteor piston. If you are going to do the work, why have weak links??? (Meteor pistons are not expensive, and they come with Caber rings)!!!

Keep us posted on what you think of the kit. Is your 044 a 10mm or 12mm??? Stock???

I’ve built two of the MS360 ‘kits’ and found them to be the simplest and most reliable. Followed closely by the MS361.

Good first choice and best bang for the buck.

Source your intake boot, fuel line and impulse line from your favorite Stihl dealer. [emoji108]

Plus the decomp valve. [emoji2960]

Examine each and every part closely and raise hell with Huztl if you find shabby parts. They will send a replacement.

Well, I don't have an AM 360, but I just got done running my OEM MOFO 360 and I will tell you that thing is a little beast!

Went through some Red Oak so fast I checked to make sure it was not punky … it was solid as a rock!

Lots of good advise here. I am hoping all goes well with this build. I have been taking notes on your suggestions so when I get the parts in my hands I can really look them over and swap them out if necessary.

The floor of a spare bedroom is ideal.

Yea that's not going to work..... I expanded the master bedroom into the spare so I could install a whirlpool in the bedroom.

Woo Hoo Fed Ex delivered in the snow storm! Now I literally have a jigSAW puzzled on the kitchen island. So far the parts look good. There is some corrosion to clean off of some of the machined edges but I expected that.

I have seen guys using 1184 sealant and some other red stuff that only sets up when oxygen is not present, can anyone tell me what that sealant is?

Loctite 518 is the most common one. Good stuff in a lot of applications. We use another Loctite flange sealant on the drill rig power shifts...number escapes me at the moment....it’s crazy expensive but has amazing properties.

It’s also somewhat picky about storage temperature so don’t leave it out in a cold shop or it won’t work as well. Or at all in higher pressure applications. Don’t ask how I learned that lol.

I’m anxious to watch this build, I’ve been wanting to buy a giant puzzle and build it with my boys.

The only sealer I use is Permatex #2 for base gasket delete.

Blue Locktite on the bar studs.

It funny I see every video uses some type of sealer on the crankcase. I just don't want to end up with an air leak. I would really like this saw to be a first time go.

I haven’t used any sealer on a kit crankcase yet. Not one leaked that I know of.

As long as the gasket covers the surface properly you should be good to go.

I strongly dislike excess silicone sealer inside my saw. [emoji13]

My wife fell asleep on the couch this afternoon while we were watching the snow blow past the windows so I used that opportunity to ask her if I could assemble my MS 360 on the kitchen island. To my surprise she didn't even argue at all!

I stuck the crank in the ice bin in the freezer, I thought this would be best since I was already in there getting ice to mix a drink. I put the clutch side case half in the oven at 250 and let it cook. My wife was not enthused about the smell of the cooking case half when she woke up but better to beg forgiveness.............
I was impressed at how easy they went together. Then I put that half in the freezer and put the flywheel case half in the oven to cook for a while. I figured this would be a pain in the ... but it actually went very well, I pushed it together most of the way by hand and used the case bolts to pull it the rest of the way.

Well *s-word these things are addictive. Just looking at the parts and figuring things out the next thing you know your test fitting pieces. And before you know it there are no more parts left in the box. The only thing missing was the 2 damn it clips for the chain brake. Tomorrow I will see if she runs, it has good spark so I don't see why it shouldn't run. Now to get it tuned,
