The Stihl MS660 is dependable and easy to work on. The problem is, guys keep breaking them, usually running over them with something -- big logs, pickup trucks, skid loaders, etc. Or, they jerk the heck out of them while cutting. Many of the 660 operators are strong enough to use them and strong enough to break them.

It's a shame guys that have real input on these big saws and some real world info on them don't join to really share what's what and not what they heard....
That's why I answered the way I did. I've had a 066 and 660 for a long time. Lots of firewood hours and felling. The 395 is new to me but I own one, tore it apart Modded and ran it. Easier to work on. If it continues to preform as it is or better for years to come than it's the better saw. But I do not have years of experience with it. Great thread

I have worked on a 650 and 2 660s this week and everyone has worn intake boots thats something you gotta check and it leaned saws out and one cylinder was not saveable
The only time I ever saw a 660 really burn out its own motor by itself was when a crack developed in the intake boot. The lean mixture then did it in. The saw had about 500 hours on it. Most of the time they are leaned out by the operator, either straight gassed or carb adjusted lean.

Most of the time it seems the crack is on the underneath side of the boot, as if it were sliced by a knife. Heck, maybe it was...

I read somewhere they offer soft and hard as mounts for the 066 is that true?
Brings up another point to the conversation. Spring loaded to rubber mount. My 066 is squishy, bet the 395 in 20yrs won't be. All great saws, have flaws. If they built the perfect one we wouldn't be here or even having conversation. Never ran a 390 or 385. 394, 395 to date are great and I'll be on Husky side of fence. IMO 064, 066, 660 are awesome. Buy them all;)
