Morel Mushrooms

We have always posted this thread on AnotherSite, time to start a new. I really miss Ed (Arrowhead) Seans and Erics mushroom posts and pics. Gonna get started.... 37 black morels found today. I love mushrooming hunting more than any other hunting and fishing, least to say, it is my FAVOURITE time of the year. I love all mushrooms and fungi, but Morels just can't be beat..

We were shocked to find em this early too, considering the weather. 36 last night and 38 tonight.

I heard that a few black ones were being found. Have not went yet this year, i hope it is a more productive year than last.

As a complete noob to mushroom hunting, do any of you have a guide or recommend a book to start out getting some edumacation?

Where would you say is the best place to look for morels? Any particular wood they favor? Any look a likes that are poison?

If you pick a mushroom and think it's a morel and it ends up making you sick your an idiot. Morels look like no other mushroom, they are also hollow from the bottom of the stem to the tip of the cap.

Damn, looks like you got a couple thousand dollars worth there, we have an old farmers/livestock auction around here called Dinkys, every mushroom season they sell for ridiculous prices, I've even seen them sell for 60 dollars a pound!
Morels are the easiest to distinguish from other mushroom, I do not see any similar, either.

it's still a little early up here ( north east corridor) for them , I haven't seen any on our walks. I've trained my dogs to spot them for me and i reward them with a mini marshmallows, much sweeter than the mushroom so there's no temptation to eat the mushrooms instead.

Cream of morel soup with a dose of ramps in it is hard to beat. Where you located?
