Got a little break and fixing to make cider

I have one of those cider presses, We used to run concord grapes through it to make several barrels of homemade wine every august. I do miss those days.

We do that every year at Field Day of the Past. It has to be stirred so it does not stick and burn. I use it as belt dressing on the flat belts on my threshing machines and grist mill. Nice and sticky and keeps the belts from slipping.

A very interesting post. The uncooked cane juice is an awful looking mess, looks like runny green goose sheidt. But that's probably just part of the process, not unlike sausage making.

We screen the green off as it starts to boil. You are right saying it is part of the process.

Pretty dang neat.

Family event every year. Priceless!!!

How do you know when it's ready to pull off the fire?
Temp, viscosity, other ??

Once it cooks down, it is a consistency that is hard to describe. You watch for the thickening as it is cooling off. I'll gets some pictures next year.

Making molasses and cider again this year. Same set as last year, just gonna be hotter today.

Squeezed some cane last night and starting with 25 gallons on the fire at 8:30am.

Good morning Joey.

Good morning! Hung out with a lot of folks from Tennessee yesterday. Most were from Nashville. Ended up with with about 75 people, food was catered, had a bluegrass band from the next county over. It was a good night.

I’m am primed for next weekend.
