7900 oiler on the chopping block. Steepened the ramp by .010-.015. Hope to oil a 32”er good. Very easy to mod this one. The end screws out and everything comes apart pretty much.5244F562-322F-4828-9F1F-A6E5D9141C1B.jpeg

That's two worms down and one done-for pump piston/gear.

Who has worm gears laying around?
I'm getting behind on them. Most of you replace the whole gear and spring. Soon I'll have enough carnage parts to build a completely worthless pump :D

That first one put out like a hose with double the volume

Sounds like you need one made of brass lol.

Not a bad idea but everything has a weak link. You need that to be cheap most times while testing.
Just went too far. I have to test the limits. Already found another road to get to the same place. Might price out the HD parts tomorrow. One needs to be on a chainsaw mill with trouble free new parts.

I just did the drive from my 6421 the other night. I used a hard wood block with a hole to hold the part, and was able to run it over the stone a couple times to bring it in. Worked like a charm.

I milled with one of my 7900 with a 110DL Oregon lightweight bar without issues. I use 063” bars over 24”.
Most of my bars over 24 to mill with are 404.
The Stihl WN 050 3/8 114dl is the old odd ball. I thinned it out to run regular or LP.
The 28es's or es wn, 24e and 25es will be fine in fifty but if they were going to be new I would go with 063 in 28"

The forty is where the trouble shows up real fast. That is 32-3"s of cutting on the face. The OE pump needs help.

I found the modded 6400/6421 I’ve done can oil a 20-32” bar just fine if the pump is healthy and working properly. The 79cc topend has more chainspeed and power... I like a oiler mod on them (even though the pump is the same) if your gonna push it hard with a 28/32”... it’s the way to go imo. Especially on a modded/ported one. More power/chainspeed = more friction. 24/28 is about the limit in hardwood with the stock pump 79cc cylinder. Running .063 also definitely makes a difference for oiling ability. I like .050 for shorter bars and .063 for long bar.

My apologies for waking up an old thread.
I am curious why so many believe that modifying the control screw increases oil output?
Iirc the cam controls pump stroke and THAT is the key to increased oiling.
I believe this applies to Stihl and Husky oilers.
Cheers lads

Depends on the brand of pump. You can add all the ramp angle in the world to a Stihl pump but it won’t flow much more oil until the cam on the control bolt allows the plunger to travel farther

your welcome to wake the dead threads... ;)

It’s been a good topic in the past.. and many have seen the light.. some sooner than others.

the thing is with most things chainsaw related there's more than one way to do something (manufacturing) and.. it's not as simple as some guys would first think .. don't be offended it’s just that you may have overlooked something.. we all done this in the past...

we’re all here for the same reasons... to learn more ;) and be pointed in the right direction, with someone with more wisdom that’s willing to share :):):):)

From my experience on modafying pumps is sometimes you only need to modify one or the other to increase output it all depends on brand and make sometimes you just have to mod both pole one apart and study it really good watch where the to meet up sofar I've seen nun of them are perfect and while modify one baby steps are key otherwise you're just wasting time and money.
