Honestly, I've thought about asking my local farmer if I could help him during hay season. He gets some local highschool kids unloading and throwing hay in the mow but every year it looks like it's their first time. I'd be willing to show them the ropes, literally. You haven't done hay unless the bales come up the elevator with no gap for the entire wagon for 10 hrs.

I fondly remember going up to my Uncle's farm every year to help with the haying. He would cut twice a year, first one always near the beginning of July. His baler did not have a kicker, so I would usually be out in the field helping throw them on the wagon. Other cousins would be at the barn feeding and unloading the conveyor belt.

My cousin still owns the farm, but he does not work it, just rents out the fields. No more cows, bulls, horses, donkeys or pigs, except in my memory!

Enjoy your time "OFF"! I really enjoyed farming when all the equipment is functioning and you have good weather..... So That only happens about four or five days out of the year!!
