I agree with the guys saying silver maple. The twisty parts can be tough to split, it's usually full of water, and like mentioned, low on BTUs. But it burns. :)

Silver maple. The trees are fast growing and become huge. It dry rots in about a year, even if stored indoors in a garage. Best to burn it the same year that it's cut and before it gets punky. If dry and not punky, it lights easily and burns well. At least you can split it when green. I sometimes collect the bark for kindling. It falls off in a few months.

For firewood, I rate it a step above cottonwood and poplar.
