Hello, this is my first post so please be patient. I searched threads but did not find . So here goes. I purchased a new Makita 7900PRZ 3 mths ago. My usual saws are Stihl 460's. I had 7900 Dolmar 11 yrs ago and wanted another but this new Makita is a LAME excuse. The anti-vibe is nice but this saw is a power and rev castrated version of a 7900 Dolmar of old. I feel I wasted $800 this saw will never run a bar above a 28 with authority in hardwood and it can't oil/lube a 24 turned wide open without leaving the bar hot and chains brown. Been to the dealer he said it is what it is. Any comments for a solution welcome. Thank You.

Answer HD hump back filter , Yes was dealer tuned and now I have a super secret screwdriver and a tach. I even tried running winter bar oil to try and improve the oiling in semi cool temps 30's-40's.

The HD filter is the problem. What rpm will it tach out to. 12k?

Have the dealer install the standard air filter retune and you'll have more power.

Thanks I did ask about the air flow being restricted and yes ,12100 is the best it will do. He advised a smaller exhaust port in the cylinder with a scavenged exhaust muffler and limited coil are power robbing this model. He suggested a Husky 390.

The hd filter setup is what kills the power on those saws. Try the low filter. My stock 7301 with low filter I tune at or a little past the limiter. It is ahead of a stock 572 or 462.

The only thing robbing power is that air filter. Does not work well with that cylinder/exhaust package. Most everybody likes the new generation saw better than the old generation.

I know your dealers rep and the inside tech/warranty guys and they will cover the changeover.

I was just gonna ask you how your heated handle EA7301PR is running. Still completely stock right?

There are ways of fixing that small exhaust port and restricted muffler :D

Pulling the stupid crack pipe out of the muffler is a start.

OP if you don't feel like splitting the muffler the dealer I bought my saw from wont let one out of the shop without popping a couple holes in that sucker.

Woodpecker, did the sound change much with those two holes punched in the crackpipe?
Not sure, never heard it without the holes. The dealer made it that way before I bought it. It changed when I gutted the muffler and added a second port.;)

Saw noise isn't something I worry much about. I always wear ear pro when I'm running one anyway. To me the lower operating temp and added power are worth a little extra noise.
