The 3601 seems like a very nice saw. If made in Germany, Japan, or USA I might be scheming to get one. Or, if I found a good deal on a used one since the commies have already made their money from it. Makita sells a sweet little top handle that is made in Japan, I think by Yamabiko. It's not officially available here but you can buy one on Fleabay, I wonder if it is the same as the Echo CS-271?

The PS-222 is a Dolmar / Makita design. It has nothing to do with Yamabiko.

Also another important part of your statement if the company concerned has there own premise with there own stringent management then it's a better scenario

I know in Germany each Dolmar product is started and finished by one person

The Germans do that with a lot of things it seems like.

Lol I was just thinking that the 3601 and cs400 would be somewhat competitive on the consumer level. That would be a cool side by side. The 400 has earned a almost cult following by some. I would like to use one for a few weeks.

Corey, if you ever make it down to the Bluegrass you are welcome to run the snot out of mine. Love my CS-400, probably the best saw I have ever owned.

So far it's a little cold blooded, but every time I run it it gets stronger, and it's still stock. Impressive little bugger!

Ya mine is cools blooded as well. Still need to get some more run time though. Can't wait to see the progress on yours.

Thread revival!!! Has anyone defeated the limiters and or put another carb on these? I've been considering one for a while but it's gotta be tunable :)

Don't like the China made thing but this sure looks like quite a bit of technology went into designing this saw. It competes directly with the Echo CS400 that comes to mind. Love to run them against each other. One would think that this is German design throughout. Good thread Nate.
Not a fan of China either, costing us jobs, but I must say, that is extreemely well built, can't fault it at all.
But is all this tech needed, is it just more to go wrong, we got by without it in the past so do we actually need to complicate things, good sized saw to test it on though as it doesnt break the bank, wonder if its the same technology used in the 6100 Makita and Dolmar, those saws do seem to bennefit from what ever is under their hoods.
Good post, thanks to the OP for opeing her up to the public.

I used mine for about 3 tanks of fuel yesterday. It is a great size for crown work. Which can be tedious time consuming.
