I found a Makita cut off saw that needs a top end. I think it’s a 7310. Would a top end from a 6421 chainsaw work? I realize the power would be less, but would it work?

Thanks, I tried searching, but the search feature here frustrates me using my phone. I see that 7310 pistons are pretty cheap.

Not sure but I think it may work, what won't work is the cutoff cyl on a saw due to lack of an av mount.

If I'm not mistaken, most cutoff saw engines are throttle governed to under 6,000 RPM. The circular saw blade is not supposed to spin faster than that. The 6421 would double it. Even if you got that setup to work, I doubt I would stand anywhere near it while it ran.

Engine RPMs are not equal to cutting wheel RPMs.

From my experience they're governed to about 10,000 RPM and the clutch and pulley sizes dictate what the blade spins

The specs on a 7301 say the no load speed is 9350 rpm ,blade speed 4300 .I think I have two of same ,one hiccups, one runs fine . 5 Hp 73 cc . I don't think the cylinder is that expensive plus I think they make an overbore big bore kit fairly cheaply .
I just haven't had the time to delve into the non runner yet .

Flea bay the saws fetch from 400 for a raged out used one to over a grand for a new one . After market which might not be the best from 90 bucks up ,piston/cylinder .I suspect these things get wrung out for ingesting concrete dust .

Correct. It depends on pulley diameter. I suppose they drop it down about 50% with the small pulley on the drive shaft and the larger one on the blade. Regardless, the cutoff saw engines usually don't come close to the RPM that a 6421 can deliver.

Thanks for the offer. However, I decided not to buy the concrete saw.
