A three phase converter is nothing more than a three phase motor with a couple of capacitors .Depending on the HP a couple hundred to say 1500 microfarad electrostatic start cap and 7.5 micofarad per HP oil cap for a run cap on 240 volt .They run at around 92 percent power factor .They will start up to the HP rating of the converter and run at about three times the rating .
Being some of what an electrical savant I have 200 amp single phase in my shop .With a 5 HP converter and some " creative" transformer wiring I have 240,480,208/365 Y, three phase ,265 single phase .
I've built maybe 15 or so converters over the years .The largest was 15-20 HP .
I have an air compressor I've been building with a 10 HP motor and a 15 HP for a converter .Back burner type of project .
