I would like to do a cat removal and tune correspondingly, any saw builders in Northern VA/VA area that can take on this light task? I need the weight loss on the saw, I have a torn up strong elbow.

A 7900 top end is actually lighter than a 6400 top end, and I know a few guys who would be happy to remove even more weight off the cylinder with a lathe and a Foredom... And by the way, a 6400 doesn't have a cat muffler.

My 6400 had a cat muffler.

My thoughts exactly. I think Mr Lebowski needs to have someone remove some material from his cylinder...

It's amazing how much that cat weighs. A lightweight bar helps also if you are using longer bars.

Just using a 20" bar.

Also, will removing the cat and tuning the saw correspondingly give a slight performance increase? It seems that a lot hinges upon the cost of labor regarding the cat removal question versus the total cost of a 7900 top end and installation.

You will want to gut the cat either way. I think Nate @fordf150 does it and does a nice job.

When I gutted the cat when my saw was a 6421 and tuned it, I didn't notice much if any improvement in performance. It seemed louder possibly. I was more worried about the heat and removing the cat helps that.

Having stepped up to the 7910 OEM setup it's is noticeably more powerful. Didnt run it much before it was ported though. IMO the saw as a 64cc is in too big of a package for the power it makes. Now as an 80cc saw it's perfect.

I used Nate's method that he shared for uncrimping the muffler. I was able to do it cleanly and recrimp to the point that hardly anyone would know it's been gutted.

It was a little time consuming (just need enough heat and a nice pair of nippers) but it wasn't overly difficult. Or as others have said, ask Nate for a new non cat muffler.

for what the 7900 muffler costs, gut your cat muffler and put the money saved towards a new reduced weight 20" bar to make the package even lighter

Thank you! Which bar do you recommend?
