I have most bases covered for tree work saws from 14 inch bars on 200 t's up to a 32 for my 441 ,for occasional use, with many other options in between. But I've been turning down a lot of work lately that I just don't have the saw power or bar size for, I'm looking for a saw that will wear a 32 as it's small bar but be capable of a 42 or 48 inch for occasional use, but be potent enough with it to avoid a 20 foot teeter totter on leaning trees. An 880 would only get used very seldom , so I can't justify the expense. Any smaller options out there?

Ported 660, 661, 394xp or 395xp would seem to be the best choices, although the oilers might become the limiting factor. They'd be the easiest to come by anyway. There's some "old iron" saws with 100+ccs that can be had for a lot less than an 880 if you want to go that way too.

I've never had the need for a 42" bar, but from what @Redbull661 shows us, a ported 661 will do the job well. Again, no personal experience with that size bar.

You would be amazed with what a skilled chain can do for a bigger bar on a smaller saw.

The 661 is the reason I went with the 441. I tested both and the 441 came out even with a 20 inch bar, I like the old 066 but I've never ran one with anything over 3', the oiler on my old one had trouble keeping up in cottonwood with that bar. Just watched a couple videos of redbulls 661, suitably impressed. If the one I tested ran like that I wouldn't be asking this question. That things a screamer.

I'm agreeing with @Redfin and arguing wif uncle @hseII. 395 puts out twice the oil for longer bars:argue::campeon2:

My 41" is pretty slobberingly wet on that 066: The Sushi Hara 36" Bara on my 660 is just right also.

I don't disagree that the Huskys put out more than the Stihls, but a lot of the issues I've found were related to too small a bar hole with the 1122 & 1128.

Typically, my oil tank runneth out when my Fuel tank hath no More, on both saws: I think that's perfect.

The only 394/5 I ever had wouldn't hold Oil over night, so maybe they put out Too Much?

The oiler is my biggest concern, maybe it just comes down to bar oiler holes, my old 066 just didn't seem to keep up in certain types of wood with a 36" bar, I generally buy forester bars above 24" just based on price, had good luck with them but not a real big oil hole. Going to have to try out a 395, liked the 394 I ran but sounds like parts are getting scarce for them.
