I have a Remington 870 20 gauge with OEM turkey tube and 26" barrel. My shells are the standard Express Long Range 1 oz. number 4 shot. I'm not planning to take any 60 yard shots or anything, but how far would you guys feel comfortable shooting a turkey with this gun and ammo? I was thinking around 35 yards maybe. I'm a little too broke right now to buy any fancy shells.

Man, I wish we had a rifle season here! My Marlin 1894 .357 with a soft lead flat nose slug would be just perfect.
You should be fine at 35. Not everyone has to be dumb like me. There were a lot of turkeys killed before there were dedicated guns and ammo for them.

35 yds sounds reasonable but I'd shoot it on paper to be sure.

I used to raise them when I was a kid. I had a wild hen for a while. They're too flighty to raise in confinement IMO.
Mostly we would raise the bronze variety. They will grow so big that they won't fit in the oven if you're not careful. Lol

http://moonridgefarm.co.uk/shop/guinea-fowl-peafowl/turkeys/american-wild-turkey/#

here is a link

i spoke to a game keeper today and they used to put wild turkey with the pheasant poults too keep them in one area , stop them flying off too far and it used too keep them in the forest cos when it was warm pheasants would go in the fields too much there a £50 fine if anyone shot the gobbler
I'd guess they're more of a hybrid. True eastern wild turkeys have a green iridescence not bronze. Either way they'll be enjoyable to have around and they taste great.

Yes I would say so I will go there and have a look at them
The colours of the feathers of the birds you have all posted are amazing
They are a magnificent bird and good eating I expect some of you would cook up a good dish @amberg

When the gobblers are flying it must be like a Boeing B-52 going over

A number of years ago, my youngest son and I were deer hunting. We went out well before dawn and set up in the woods, along a well used game trail. We had set up directly under some Oak trees, where a large group of Turkey had roosted. Just after day break, they started flying down all around us. The woods were tight and for most of the birds, it was more of a controlled crash. My son thought it was raining bowling balls, so did I. It was entertaining to watch, after we figured out what was happening.

This mornings bird. Pictures not as nice as the first one but I was in a hunting contest with a good friend of mine. We didn't think about pictures until this poor fella was already stiff. Lol

15lbs 1 1/16" spurs 12 1/4" total beard length (double beard)

Good Lord blessed us with another great morning in the turkey woods.

Thanks brother. Things were slow until about 9:30. How did you all make out? Did your daughter get out with you this morning?
