Closest real 1,000 uard range to me is in Trout Run, PA. I mostly shoot at a friends cabbage farm. He lets me kill all the woodchucks I can. I got one last year at 513 yards with my 260.

That would be fun. I got a groundhog at a touch over 400 with a 300 ultra. Never got an opportunity for anything longer on varmint. I haven't hunted whitetail much at all in the last 10 years

I can get to 800 or real close on some friends places. There's a 1k yard range in Knoxville.

I know they have something in KY . My bro goes there for long range shoots. He won a gun there once.

5 events and only 1 ticket if you didnt win any events. If you won a event your name got put in 5 times per win. 1 guy had 11 tickets my bro only 1.

The one laying down he won.

Mammoth Sniper Challenge. It's a big deal. Allegheny Sniper Challenge in West Virginia is another good one

A local dealer has 1 in stock w/6.5 Creedmore and .338 Lapua barrels, Cans for each, some model of a Schmidt and Bender (I think) and a very nice case for about $9K (probably before taxes)... If I win the lottery anytime soon...

I have a friend who has a 338 Lapua. Not enough places around here to shoot over 500 yards. We did go to Gunsite a few years ago.

That's my problem up here, finding a safe place to shoot a rifle of that caliber is next to impossible.

My best friend owns a training facility in the Dallas Fort Worth area. He's got a 1000 yard range on site that I go down to a couple times a year. But for a 338 that's about the minimum distance. That's about the equivalent of shooting 300 yards with a 308.

Once a year we run ELR class out in west Texas at a ranch. That's where the fun is to be had with the 338 and 50.

I used to shoot 9MM Lapua, I pronounce it Lapooa, in HK MP5's a while back. They make great 9MM hi powered carbine ammo.

Any of you guys have any experience with a Savage 110 FCP HS PRECISION Chambered in .338 Lapua? It's a very affordable way to get into.338LM, I had considered the 110 BA but it's very heavy and in my old age I'm tending to get away from the tactical look. I got my wife a Sig 938 a while back so I could justify a new gun for me! It's either a .338 or another AR in .458. This is also going to require my first attempt at reloading due to cost of either round. Any advice on "entry level" reloading equipment that is suitable for these Cal's.would be appreciated. I know even going the affordable route like I've described is going to get expensive, I had better buy her a 10" 300 blkout upper for her pistol for some more of that aforementioned justification....

I had a long range hunter in 338. I spent $1k on reloading stuff. It's not cheap either way you go. I have an electric powder dispenser and case prep station. Rockchucker press. If you don't mind trickling powder out yourself and doing the brass cleanup by hand 100% you can save about $500 off the $1k

Yes I also like the LRH111, but I really like the HS stock on the 110 FCP. Any reliability issues? That round has to test any platform, but Savage is pretty bulletproof. If you would ever be so inclined I would appreciate it if you could put together a list of your reloading setup with man./model and any thing you would do differently. I understand if that's asking to much but it would help me with the learning curve and costly mistakes....

Thanks, I will look at YouTube University for info on what all is required. I have never even thought about it,just always bought bulk ammo (which has left me with a great brass stash) but the cost of 338 will require reloading, plus I am sure at 1-2000 yds.the perfect recipe will be a necessity...

I haven't shot a FCP in 338. I imagine it's not going to be a set up that you will enjoy shooting 50+ rounds out of at a time. Personally if I ever get a 338 id get a platform that has a little more weight to it for recoil absorption.

I'd like to get a 458 SOCOM some day. But up here in Michigan neither the 458 or 338 serves me much practical use.

Like Mike said, you can't go wrong with a RCBS Rockchucker.

For a powder thrower, pick what you can find on sale. They are all pretty much the same design and concept, just a different color. I started out using a Hornady LNL like Mike has and it served me well until I got a Chargemaster.

You can get into basic reloading for relatively cheap. It's the small things that make the process more productive that can get costly.
