The 338 is a awesome round, probably my favorite round I've ever shot. If and when I ever move to Texas and having a use for a ELR rifle the 338 will be on my short list. It would be between that and a 50.

The 338 has softer recoil than a 50, but the ammo is dang near twice the price. That would be my only hang up on getting a 338. It's also been my experience that the 338 starts to loose steam around the 3000 yard mark where the 50 still has some steam going.

I think if I do another for LR/ELR it will be a 300 Norma. Components aren't as bad as a 338 Lapua and I'll never get out past 2k unless I get out west a lot.

It's pronounced Laapua

I'm not sure that you Canadians will be able to pronounce it though:D

I've never used their brass. When I shoot I never seem to find all my brass back:(
lay a tarp out and shoot on it. Thats what I do just to keep my uncle's yard clean.

I mainly bench shoot so I don't lose much brass. I have found the Lapua brass to be the most uniform and consistent. Plus it lasted the longest for me.

That doesn't work for the style shooting that I do. When I am doing longer shoots where the brass could help with consistency I'm in and around rocks where the brass will get lost, or fly down a 100' ledge, land in a fire ant mound etc....

I don't have many pics on my phone from the ranch we shoot at, but here is me on a clients 338. A shooting mat is comfortable, but brass still Flys and gets lost.

I'd like to get a box of Lapua to try in my rifle. I can't knock the stuff till I try it. I may very well come to the conclusion that it's worth the price even though I'll lose 25% of it on each trip.

I've got a bunch of their .223 brass, I need to trade it off.

I know F class guys that get 20 reloads out of Lapua brass. That's with annealing the cases every 4th firing. If you can manage not to lose the brass it becomes affordable.

I doubt you'd ever see that much on he 338. They get thin down close to the base.

Probably not but their brass is thicker than any other I've used. I figured if I had $4k into the rifle and optic I might as well use the most consistent brass I could buy.

I have a friend who has a 338 Lapua. Not enough places around here to shoot over 500 yards. We did go to Gunsite a few years ago.

That would be awesome. Maybe one day I'll have the time and money to go to those shoots

It had to have been 7 or 8 years ago, right before we had our first child. It will be awhile before I go again. Just having a 1,000 yard range to shoot on was awesome.

I can get to 800 or real close on some friends places. There's a 1k yard range in Knoxville.
