I found 2 ms261s at the landfill today. I snapped a few pics of what all I found with them. I’ve been wanting to learn to build saws and this should be a great opportunity to learn. I’ll have to clean everything to see what’s usable and what isn’t. No idea on compression yet as the plugs aren’t in the saws. It looks like the majority of what’s missing is here in the pile, but quite a bit of it is pretty gunked up and rusty.

I’m hopeful that seals, bearings, and a little love all the way around will put at least one of them back into running condition. I’ll be posting lots of pics and asking for help with these.

I found 2 026’s in the same condition.

Cool deal man. I found the best thing to clean up dirty saws is mineral spirits, a pick set and a variety of cleaning brushes.

Don't forget to post a video of these saws in action once you get them all back together!

Those are the two best saw models you can own. Good find!! blacksmith the best thing to clean dirty saws is a Tornador with Dawn and a high flow air compressor or you might even start at the car wash.

I never thought about the dawn and a tornado I'll have to try that.
I do use the air compressor too. Tried pressure washer but it didn't work to well for me trying to hold it and spray. I had to hold it while someone else sprayed and I got soaked! Hahaha. The pressure washer does make quicker work though.

You never know just what treasures might lurk in the junk pile .I've got a dumpster salvaged Mac 700 that was given to me .Complete minus the recoil ,stuck as tight as a bulls azz in fly time .
Drowning with Kroil for about a week and moving it to a fro it limbered up finally .Replaced the recoil and a shot of prime it fired .Rebuilt the carb and never did another thing to it .Runs like a top .

I buy Kroil and WD-40 in gallon cans .Eventually it gets used up and is much cheaper than by the little can .Every so often Kroil has a deal on gallon cans and they throw in a can or two of Aero Kroil .I've also got air cans of PB blaster and the age old Liquid wrench .They all work to some degree as does good old kerosene .

There is as much conversation of penetrating oils as there are mix oil and ratios for two cycle engines .One of the oldest of same is Marvel Mystery Oil that has been around from days BA--before Al .If it worked in 1930 it will work in 2019 just as well .
A few months ago when I resurrected my old Oliver crawler that had sat 15 years and never started I used this stuff .I knew some valves would be partly stuck, some rings partly hung .After running at about 1/4 throttle for a few hours it smoothed out .Didn't have to pull the head, nothing .It stands to reason if the stuff worked on a 216 cubic inch six cylinder engine it would also work on a 5 cubic inch two cycle saw engine .So that's another option .

I’ll definitely be picking a couple things and trying them out. Haven’t really had much time to dig in and work on these. Had a plumbing leak that’s shut off but still not fixed, home ac needed repair, and now the evaporator coil is leaking in my truck. Looks like the dash has to come out :(
