This came up on a facebook post, and got me started on checking it out. This chain was designed to cut wood differently than the chain we're used to. Story is, it would stay sharp longer in dirty wood, and was used quite a bit in cutting ash covered logs after Mt Saint Helens. I haven't been able to totally verify either of those things.
Anyway, I know where I can get some of this chain, and wondered if anybody would be interested in buying some if I can get it at a reasonable price.
This picture kind of shows what it is. Picture is originally from AS.FB_IMG_1532961200905.jpg

I know where there is a large amount of it at. I just wondered if anyone would be interested in buying some of it if i got it. I guess i should add that this chain is not the odd pitch in that picture. Its mainly 404 and maybe some 3/8 .

Not sure yet. Im trying to see if there is enough interest in it to pay me to deal for some of it. I THINK ill be able to sell it at a comparable price to regular chain. Thats what i hope anyway.

I would be interested in a couple 3/8 loops. Don’t run any .404 but if that’s all you can get I can convert one of the big saws to play with it.

Depends on cost. Might be interested in a loop or length for display, but probably not to run.

Like Philbert said, if the price is right I'd be interested in a loop or two.

But only if it turns out to be either one of the following pitches+gauges:
- 3/8" .058"
- 3/8" .050"
- .404" .050"

I'd like one to run it, and as a conversational piece - not just for display.

I can provide a US shipping address.

I think You should look into getting more info regarding pitch & gauge specs of those rolls.
You might also wanna get a quote on pricing and relay Your pricing to interested parties.
It is kinda hard to commit to purchase something undefined.

Ok, I just wanted to find out if anyone would be interested in getting some of this. This is not like buying regular chain at a regular store. I will have to drive a couple of hours and haggle with a guy to see if I can get it at a price where I can sell it at a comparable price to modern chain. The ONLY pitch I know for sure is there is 404.
As for running this chain, if you decide to cut with it you're on your own. It had a reputation for horrible kick back. Story is, osha would not approve it. IF I can get some, it will be sold as a collectors items ONLY. I will not be responsible for anyone using it.
Also, it will probably be this fall before I'll have a chance to go get it.

I’m still in. More intrigued than anything else.

That chain is .058, .375 pitch

It cuts well, not very smooth, and if u have dry loose bark, it really throws it at you especially at the very moment the chain touches the log

Pics of the leg?

'OSHA' does not 'approve' any products. Lots of myths and conspiracies surrounding this chain.

Apparently, a couple of companies tried similar designs (look through patent claims) and it just did not work good enough for people to switch for most purposes.

Might excel in some specific applications. But people talk about it like the 'secret 300 mpg carburetor that Shell Oil bought to keep off the market'.

If a guy is sitting on a bunch, he probably understands that it is mostly valuable as a curiosity.
