My KM55R (KombiMotor) is starting and revving fine, but the shaft doesn't turn with the motor, like the shaft is disconnected. I'm talking about the part that drives attachment tools like string trimmer and edger. What should I be checking?

Thanks for any help.

Just remove the top cover/engine housing. You can see the shaft, and where the drive enters the clutch drum. Should tell you all you need to know.

The clutch drums can fail/break particularly on high hour units. I've replaces a few on various attachment power heads.

So at the risk of seeming exceptionally dumb, last time I removed the top cover the entire trigger mechanism disassembled itself. Had to go to the shop to get it put back together. While your exact plan occurred to me, hesitated to remove the cover again. Should I be able to remove the cover to examine the shaft without messing up the trigger?

Just loosen the bolts, and then back out the center one that locks in the shaft and pull out the shaft, then all of the innards should stay in place nicely.

Believe or not Fish I knew that;)... That about the only time anything is that clean. It just rare for me to work anything like that unless it something I just brought for my own use. Maybe one of these days I get to where I can sell new equipment again.

Hope you're having a good end to the year. Mine year was better this year considering I didn't have that 2,500 major repair this year I am still running 2,000+ over last year and that is also my additional net profit.:)

I hope the OP has found his problem by now.
