Not only is it not gutted...it still has a spark screen in it. That muffler is 50 state legal...well at least 47.5 state legal.

It's in my truck and I had aspirations of going to the sawmill today to run it some. Alas another project came up and a TroyBilt Horse tiller called my name at lunch time. Will be Wednesday at the earliest at this point. At that point it will be phone video sitting on a log...nothing fancy.
Thank you for taking the time to video it

Here is the promised video.

I was sneaking in a stop at the wood yard between jobs so I apologize it wasn't a longer or better video. Saw is tuned at 14,200 +/- 100 rpm. It was holding ~12,100 self feeding in the cut. The chain wasn't the best but it's a hand filed LGX chain on a wide nose 84 DL bar. Saw has a nice wide power band and does well self feeding or being pushed in the cut. I'm real pleased with it.

The oiler keeps up nicely even fully buried in dry hard wood with a haze of the tip during a piss rev. Generally real happy with the out come.

Of course 3 hours later I was approached about a tractor a fellow really wants me to have/buy. If someone is serious about this saw get in touch with me. It's not an "I need it gone.. but projects come and projects go." It won't hurt me to drain it, wipe it down, and put it up on a shelf in the shop.

Frustrated at work myself and wanted a distraction. Just busting your chops...

Frustrated at work is an understatement. We could have our first frost at any time now and people are all jittery about paving. I can't help the fact they have delayed their own projects all year long. Add in those that want to START projects... and the usual managing a project BS... I am ready for some cold weather and I'm taking a few days away.

Black top or concrete? We've been freezing most every night for weeks and I still see both types of projects all over town here needing to be finished.

Well mainly asphalt but we pour curb and sidewalk everyday too. We have an asphalt plant and to sell asphalt you need to do the whole package..

A long term project I've been working on. A good friend graciously offered to reorder the cases at a rate I couldn't turn down so I took him up on it. Life happens and thus this project has taken somewhere around 18 months to finish.

It's not a build thread...just pics I took along the way. OEM jug and slug, new HD -50-A from Dave, and generally pretty OEM saw. AM rubber kit and a Viton intake from HL. Have made one quick cut but it seems to do well.

Good morning!
Sweet build, my favorite saw to run and work on, just curious what kind of gains you get from the HD-50A over the HD-16 or 17. What saws do the HD-50A carbs come on?
Thanks Ryan.
Thanks Ryan

I dunno about gains but it tuned in nicely. That saw was ported and ran VERY nice... comes on a MS461? I think...

Well, at least you all convinced me that my decision to rebuild an MS440 last year was worth it. A climber carried the saw 50' up in a tree to cut off the top 25 feet of a huge pin oak. The saw's bar bound up as the tree top broke loose. It jerked the 440 from his grasp and it fell first. But, the tree top then fell on top the saw. Somehow the climber remained aloft and was not injured.

Handlebar, brake handle, tank housing, pull-cord housing, muffler, top end, and several other parts were destroyed. Somehow the case, flywheel, bearings, etc, were still intact. I bought new parts and carefully replaced them all. Hours were required.

The saw starts and runs today, pulling a 28" bar and chain.

Just asking, did you oil the Maxflo filter? The photos at the beginning looked like the filter right out of the package.
What oil do you use?
