Local fellow brought me a load of saws to go through, again. 4 - 55s that he uses in his small clearing and septic business. This one had a broken case corner by the chain catcher. Told me it ran fine but with the corner busted it has only 3 of the 4 AVs causing it to flop around. I tried to talk him out of it saying we could buy another for the same money or cheaper than parts and my labor.. he insisted. He sold it saying he wanted one I have gone through as he trusts my work and I always take care of him. OK.

I took pictures of the process. Not a step by step... but a bunch of pictures. If you have questions I will try to answer them. It's a saw I rebuilt 18 months ago with a Hyway closed port top end. Base gasket delete. It's holding up fine. Piston has a carbon line on it but he was fine with it and I have confidence in it. Starts and runs well so I'm happy with it. Hyway seals, OEM gasket set. Hyway AVs.

Nice photos, Jimmy

You cooked a meal while putting this saw together?

What did you use to scrape off the old case gasket ... die grinder?

Why the photo of the two throttle links?

Have you tested my 288 at Randy's yet?

Is there anything I've forgotten?

Looks great! What is the burgundy gasket goo? I dunno why but it looks better than Motoseal.

Markup on a new saw wouldn’t be as much money as labor would work out to. To him it’s the same amount, but it’s a favor to you that it’s probably more $ in your pocket @ the end of the day, instead of in Husqvarna’s pocket.

Nice seeing @Mattyo tools getting used.

I heat 5 gallons of water at a time for cleaning the parts. I have two identical plastic tubs; one i soak parts with cleaner and scrub in and then the other has 5 gallons of HOT water to rinse in. Cleaning a saw I feel is huge to getting good results.

Gasket I use a single edge razor blade lightly and then I use a very fine file, like old motorcycle mechanics do, holding across two surfaces at once. Just lightly drag it across the cases and you will find high and low spots and cut the gasket off.

Two throttle links is really for @Gentleman ; the short one was a new one that is clearly too short. I fixed the end on the factory one and reinstalled it. Not sure where that short one would be used but it won't work in the 55 it was advertised for. Anyone need it?

I haven't been to see my little buddy yet... need to.

Loctite 518. I like it better than motoseal or dirko personally. If it squeezes to the crankcase it won't harden and hurt anything in there. Also not as runny. Cleaning it off can be a real PITA though. @Mastermind turned me on to it with my first ported 372 build. Never failed me so I keep with what works for me.

Those tools.. they get by. My personal idea is they leave some room for improvement but yes they do work.

The other tool I made there for pulling the oiler drive off and then I take it apart for putting the oiler drive back on safely.
