Jonsered Black flippy caps

As far as I know, Jonsered doesn’t make Black flippy caps like the newer Husqvarna saws. Too bad the Huskys are gray. I really like the flippy caps on these saws.

A kind individual brought me some aftermarket ones that a few of his customers had really good luck with. I’ve had really good luck dying various plastics with RIT dye and decided to try these. What’s the worse that could happen? Standard gray on the right first pic, second picture it’s on the left.

I dumped some 40:1 mix on the cap for 20-30 mins and nothing lifted or came off. It is the same color as the black one I did not test.

I have done the same thing with OEM ones for my Makita, they turned out 2 toned, kinda neat

I’ll run these for a while and see how they hold up. If they leak or break I’ll tey to dye a set of Oem ones.

I have to say I like this saw the more I use it. I don’t think it’s broken in yet so I’m thinking it might even pick up a little. They are lookers for sure.

If you add the right amount of acetone to the rit and water mix it helps get the dye deep in the plastic. Don't use too much or you melt the plastic. Also, heat the mix.

When you pull them, drop them into ice water it helps set the dye.

That's entirely possible. There's all different densities of the same type of plastic. Most of this stuff is injection molded. Softer in the center for more flex would make sense. Then more ridged in the thread area.

A lot of engineering goes into the little things. The average consumer wouldn't give most of it a second thought.

Last 2 oem flippers I got online was $15 for 2 shipped is that to much ?

I think that’s ok for oem. They work well and don’t leak. I wish these would work in Stihl saws.

That I could not find. I’m searching. Steve had smaller ones but they were still too big.
