However, that doesn't change my views on the matter in any way.

It's ugly. I agree.

Seems we have a bunch of guys here that truly enjoy this sort of thing.

Personally, I hate a damn crook.....and I firmly believe that when Harvey charged that young man 600.00 for a hacked up Chinese top end, that was the actions of a crook. Maybe I should have said my peace, and locked the thread? Well.....then there would be those that said I was being unfair because I did not allow a rebuttal. I've come to the conclusion that I'm gonna get the blame regardless.....and I just shrug it off.

In IH's followers eyes I'm a pile of dung because I couldn't stand idly by and watch a crook screw someone over. You know what? I'm ok with that. Jesse is gonna get a damn fine saw to take to woods......and that makes it worthwhile.

BTW, This place can get pretty rough, but I participated in gundog forums for quite a few years. You should see it when the Setter guys get after the Retriever guys, or vice versa... makes this place look positively congenial.. :)

And for what?? Everyone knows Setters are better'n Retrievers!

All this over a guy frenching an old chainsaw.
thats the problem that i see with this tho. its the obvious dishonesty. its pretty well clear IH has lied from the start. and he wasnt just *f-wording a saw. he was *f-wording a person, intentionally. i agree things got a bit off track...but if a guy wants to mangle his own stuff and make vids? i couldnt care less. mangling someone elses stuff, blowing smoke up their arse, and making youtube vids riddled with lies and *B-S.... in order to make a buck?
no way

I've adopted a "wait and see" approach to these situations. I've been on the forums longer than most, and was a member of AS before it was even Arboristsite (previously, it was an internet bulletin board, before they had forum software of any kind).

Many years ago, a thread was started about me supposedly sending out a "rebuilt saw" that was not really rebuilt. Some guys got into the thread and rabidly defended me, some others said I was the biggest POS ever. In the end, it turned out that another member sold and send out the saw - a member whom I never had any dealings with or even knew. They lived somewhat in my area but were about three hours away. That experience taught me that there's always a lot more to the story when a thread actually gets created about it. I think the only thing Wade did wrong here was rush in to defend the guy without having the back story, which is no different than rushing to slam a guy without having the back story.

I'm jamming to some old J Geils band, and have passed the point of caring.

But......you're my hero.

well said. i havent been around near as long, but ive seen enough guys itchin to burn somebody at the stake just for the spectacle, but to me (and maybe im wong), this seems pretty cut and dry. i dont quite understand the defense of this guy. again, a lot of off color comments (im guilty too) that werent productive. but it seems to me like the "evidence" in this case would stand up in a court of law. physical evidence, documentary evidence (filmed by the "perpetrator" himself), story corroborated by first hand witnesses. i dont get defending this guy, i just dont.

But......you're my hero.

The pattern I've seen with these things is this:

1. - New builder gets into saws, reads a little and does some internet research, and buys basic tools.

2. - New builder builds a few good running saws, either by dumb luck, or by real talent that is afforded by quality research.

3. - New builder's ego swells like an old man whose Cialis is kicking in and starts to really believe in their talent, whether or not it's warranted.

4.- New builder starts charging a premium price and takes on a lot of work, in some cases more than they can handle.

5.- Things start to go south when either the work is found out to be shoddy when analyzed against the premium price, or new builder is so
buried that he can't get caught up and then can't return people's equipment and funds.

6.- Internet mob wars ensue.

7.- Wash, rinse, & repeat with the next "new builder."

Yeah it's pointless continuing this IH stuff on the forums because everyone here is of the same mind regarding his work and his character.
Like I said: if you want to see him "brought to justice" so to speak it's going to have to be done on YT where people actually know about him.
Or we could just leave it and let his future work speak for itself and we can bask in hindsight.

Winter only makes this phenomenon worse.

Hope Randy zones in on the J Giels, check out Mandolin Orange too, and forgets about this topic for a bit.
