With Husqvarna and Stihl well into the auto tune/M tronic way of developing 2 stroke machines , are we seeing the start of what has happened in the automotive industry .
The computer/software systems needed to "Fully" work on these machines (Saws, trimmers, cars, trucks, tractors ..etc) is really only available if you are in the dealer support network .
I wonder if we are all seeing the start of the smaller non brand dealer /repair shops decline ....let alone those who work on there own machines.
There will come a time where the non electronic machines become much less common or will be the home owner machines only .....carbs on new cars ! rare and not main stream now .
What are the thoughts and ideas out there as to the future for a industry that at present contains ...main dealers , general machine shops , specialist saw modifiers and the home mechanic .

I do believe it is the start of things to come but the primary difference between saws and cars is that vehicles have advanced in many other ways besides the drive trains and many people like the additional safety and comfort features that the newer vehicles provide. In my shop, garage and drive way I have vehicles that were manufactured in the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 2000's and my newest vehicle is a 2017. I do the maintenance and servicing on all of them. Saws have also made changes in safety and comfort but not near the continual progress that road vehicles have. Most of the saws I use regularly are the 0 series Stihls such as the 019T and 026 I used yesterday. I also have 039, 036, 044, 046, MS660 etc. I have used newer model chainsaws and don't like them as much as these mentioned. So for me, no matter what direction OPE takes, I will be using 0 series Stihls until I'm too weak to start them anymore. One of the things I highly dislike in newer vehicles is that control is wrested away from the operator by the manufacturer. ie, my 2017 Cruze shuts the engine off every time you stop at a red light or stop sign or in stop and go traffic. This is annoying and also can't be good for the starter, battery and flex plate. EPA drives that kind of stupid stuff. If I get too frustrated with it I can drive my 1963 Ford Falcon. But then I give up disk brakes, power steering, shoulder belts, air bags, collapsible steering column, third brake light and so forth. There's lots of used OPE out there and for those resistant to the new stuff, there's no reason to be forced in that direction.

Kinda along the same lines I was watching a YouTube video the other day and the guy bought a brand new big rig. He went on saying that they took an old cat motor out of a wrecked truck had it rebuilt and put in this new truck. That's kinda the way a see a lot of things going from people who want to be able to keep working on equipment. Not to mention the new tier 4 standards and Def systems on new diesel powered trucks/tractors.

My dad drove trucks for 35 years, he always said...you take an old cat engine from the 70's and put it against the newest....the old would smoke(literally) the new one Every time. The EPA should be bombed.
Shop I work for is a stihl dealer and I have good connections with tech, we don't sell husqvarna for reasons I won't mention here. lol

If echo brings out a 70cc lightweight solid performer they would have a winner.

Hear is another example ....MAC....(lets not have the PC v Mac debate please) The new laptops with there solid state hard drive will no longer be able to be sorted out by most "None Mac centres" so im told by my independent dealer due to the chip being direct coupled to the mother board. You can take out a disk hard drive and plug in a new one im told but not the solid state sort. Just a example ...not starting a computer debate :)
If you look at many things and products , the company's are gaining some control and income from there investment and complexity .

less regulations = less law
less law = less work for lawyers
less lawyers = more better for us...

Not quite. There's such a thing called "case law". The adjudication of the case sets the law.

been in trucks bout that long. much as I like mechanical cats, they will not stay with the new stuff w/o some mods, throwing mileage and reliability out the window. the bad w/new stuff is yer toolbox is a 800 number.
