Is running picco on a ported 261 a mistake?

Tldr

Gave all that up. Just went and learned all the chain from 1/4" - 1/2". All better now.
I still hate 325 chain
So you read it then:risas3:.
I used to dislike 325, but it was mainly my sharpening skills or lack there of, I run it on most the 50cc saws now though.

I am actually doing ok with .325 chain. I run mostly .063 in 16" and 18" for Stihl bars. I think 67dl and 74dl???

PM me after you check them.
Plenty of them here and maybe two or three bars around to run them on, maybe. My 325 pile was over fifty loops strong before letting many go on used combos going out the door some years back. 029/290's or a 310 wif a 20" 325 0.063 was popular then.

If you need almost dead cutters for roots or safety chain for boring cuts....got those also.

Anything I run loads up chip but the small mount Husky @66dls and then jams the cut. Try 325 with a 24" bar and report back.
It may well work on the beam cutter. Time will tell but I'll place my money on the 3/8" RS to get some work done quickly. 325 sucks on the mill.

So did you do anything yet, it's been days already lol.
I like picco chain a lot and have it on a mm 261. Not because it cuts faster, but less mess on a clients yard, the chips are very easy do hit with a backpack blower and watch them disappear. I also run it on my ported 241 and like it a lot.
Seems most guys dont want to have a bunch of different files and chain sizes around. For me I find it makes it much easier to know what I'm looking for. When I see a 325 chain I can pick it up and tell its for a 16 or 18" bar and tjose go with the small mount bars for the little huskys, the 3/8 goes on the 20+ bars and large mounts, the picco is for all the smaller saws with the exception of the 261, but they are all easy to separate by length. If I didn't run the pole saw/200/201/193 I'd probably consider changing the 4300 and the 241 over to 325 but its not a big deal either way for me, if I have chains of a certain size and saws set up for them, I run them.
I don't think most of the cutting gains are as big as some want to make them out to be if your chains are set up well for the saw. Picco and 325nk or standard I find to be smoother and more enjoyable to run when dealing with small limbs on a smaller saw(50cc or less).
Curious what you decide and the result you have. As was said in the first response, give it a try and see if you like it.

I laugh when people can't handle having files in a few different sizes...like it's a big inconvenience for cutting firewood sometimes lol.

7/32 files are heavier than 3/16...you would think the weight savings would add up at the end of the day ?

I cut the ends of my files off since I only use one hand on them in suburbia and use lightweight handles:risas3:.
I never really understood a lot of it myself, but to each his own.
Theres probably more grinders in the basement here than most guys have in files :dogpile:.

I use golf balls. Drill a small hole and insert the file. Easy on the hand when pushing the file.
Great tip.
Some guys use wine bottle corks too.
Most guys who do a lot of filing also teach to pull the file as well.

Not towards you Jeff, just generally speaking here.
Just as I was saying, give it a try(doesn't normally hurt lol). Whatever works for you, but don't expect everyone to like it or that it will work for everyone :beer-toast1:.
