found this interesting as well, has a paper gasket stuck on the case with a metal gasket on top.
Depending on the market the saw went to , some of the Husqvarna 200 group saws had ether ether a .5mm or a 1.0mm bace gasket i recall. Im thinking something to do with compression for the fuels the saw may run on...wonder if you have something similar in the way of a Stihl made for different market ?

Well here's the story. I was gone partying with a bunch of roadies from Iron Maiden when the men in black suits came out from Stihl to deliver that saw to me. My wife had them leave it on the desk. When I got back it was just gone flat out disappeared. Thank you so much for finding it. Please send it right over.

Thangst.

Is that coil harness wiring cover black?
I have never seen one factory in that color. Never saw that coil either. Never saw stickers under the hood. I'm betting those cases have no serials on the split face on the drive side case.

Interesting frankenstein 064.
Serial #120524883 tells me what I gather is no newer then a 1990.
I also notice the Made in West Germany rewind housing badge which would be original for that serial #. Germany reunited by 1991.
Top cover and badge is original too. Has the early 3 screw poly chain brake/ oil pump cover.

But then other stuff changes. Its got a 1998 Y code fuel tank with a mismatched 066 red light air box housing screwed on top. Looks like the red lens is still visable on the outside. Inside the housing you the can see the 2 brackets to hold the LED unit. 066 red lights wrre gone by 1994.

064 never had a red light LED but did have CDIC in early 1990 (still West German).
It has the original non intelli WJ carb but has a newer oil less HD filter with intilli air compensation slotted filter base and cover.

Here's a article from August 1990 about the "new" 064 with CDIC. The predecessor of the 066 RL.

This Saw reminds me of a FS 460 we had here in our shop.
It was brand new but granaded at the first tank of fuel because it had too many c rings mounted at the piston :D

So we hat no time at the moment and got a complete Cylinder/Crankcase from a new FS 460 and put that in his Machine and the other parts of that new FS 460 were on stock for 6 years until i had time to split the case and put in a new crankshaft/bearings and p/c. In this 6 years we took some parts of that FS 460 so now we can sell it as brand new Year 2018 cause nearly everything was swapped out because we needed the parts Carb/ECU or Shafts. Same on a brand new MS 462 here as parts were not available at the release of that saw.

So we rebuild that engine with brandnew genuine Stihl parts but the serial# is from 2012.
But we use these saws/brushcutters only for internal purpose or for demonstration purpose.
I don't want to sell a saw that was disassembled completly for 2-3 times for the price of a new saw.

I think the SNs are divided between models. My 044 starts with 126, and I purchased it new in 12/92. Therefore, I would presume your 064 case was manufactured earlier than that date. Also, my 044 is a Red Lever, but the SN 120 044s I've seen (3) are all Black Lever. That is about all I can add.

Nice looking saw.

I've heard there were red light 64s and arctic ones. Never seen either.

The documentation is getting pretty scarce anymore...

I had one... The 064s didnt have a "red light" per se like the 066, but had the rev limited CDIC ignition. Mine had a "digital" sticker with an atom, on the air filter cover.

Mike, my 1992 066 Mag's serial.# also starts with 126 and it's a red lever too:cool:
My '86 064s # start with 116 and 117. So 1989-90 with a 120 sounds about right.
