The problem with the EPA rules on saws is they only rate emissions against engine size. They will give up 20% power for a 5% reduction, which is just plain stupid!!!
EPA, or any State Environmental Agency, will never investigate or inspect an individual's chainsaw for emissions or modifications.

I agree. Without safe surface waters ( no impairments) and clean air we'd be a 3rd world country. I've investigated many fish kills in waterbodies due to pollution discharged from industries and oil & gas activities. Most comply but some require enforcement. Also, I love my ported saws too.

In my humble opinion, if ever we become willing to trade our grandchildren's clean air and water away to make more money, we have lost our morality, and don't really deserve to live on this beautiful blue planet.

The way Motorsport evolves is due to regulation. Look at F1 for example, each year new rules come into play to slow the cars down and the teams develop new tech to speed them up. With chainsaws we can thank the EPA for a few things like strato engine design for example and electronic fuel management. Its mainly when OEMs don't invest in design we run into problems like fitting cat mufflers to old tech so they comply. When companies are forced to overcome challenges is when new fresh ideas come to fruition.

Possibly, or possibly competition would have yielded similar results.

IMO, what they did to cars in the 70s + 80s was horrific, and it took decades to recover. IMO, the needle needs to be moved with technology, not ahead of it.

But your are correct that modern cars seem to be providing the best of everything. Higher HP, better fuel mileage, and better longevity. Synthetic Oils and better Anti Freeze are also major contributing factors.

These pics come to us by way of @StephK87 from Germany. He was kind enough to void his warranty and send us these pics. Not only that, he will be porting this saw ASAP and gutting the stratos, Snellerized Style. I can't wait to see how this thing runs! It looks like a cross between a MS261CII and a MS661C.

Stephen's initial comments are that it's as light as a MS362, as strong as a MS461 but with better acceleration, and much better handling than a MS441.

Price will go up within the year so buy early. This has been their pattern on the introduction of news saws over the years.
