I just got done converting a Stihl 024 to a 026. The 024 top end was bad.

Here's one (024 to 026) that I did two years ago:
Stihl 024-026 01.JPGStihl 024-026 02.JPG As a worn out 024 parts saw, it needed a new air filter, new plastic, and a new top end. That was expensive. So, I bought new 026 plastic, carb, top end, and air filter. Then I added an outer bumper spike. I only made one mistake: I sold the converted saw.

I have an 024 that I will be bringing back from the dead sometime in the coming weeks. Only I'm going to keep it an 024, I want to see how it stacks up against my 242xp. Wouldn't be fair to give it a boost in displacement ;)

Those MS260 plastics? Doesn't look like an 024.

I don't think that would work as I believe the stroke is different.
Stroke is different, but the measuring that I have done, the 024-024s-026 are the same distance from the base to squish band, so I think it is doable, the squish on my 024 was almost .035 without a gasket, I think it would be about the same with 026 jug, and a little cut off the base and it should work, haven’t done it yet so I don’t know what the port timing would be like thou.

No, I recall those were 026 -- PRO, in fact. You can see the decomp opening in the shroud that the 026 needed. I filled that in.
026 plastic has the tag in the top to identify, the ms260 has the bubble top like yours, and the starter cover had the round badge that says ms260. Not sure if they made an ms260 plastic without the decomp hole, I have seen many ms260’s that were not pro ‘s but had the decomp hole plugged from the factory? Also seen a few late model 026 no pro with a decomp plastic plugged.
