On my 281, the top cover holes were wallowed out. Long story short, is the bottom case made of mag or aluminum? I need to do some build up on a damaged hole and wondering if it’s best to do build up with weld or braze or silicon bronze?

The ear snapped off when I tried over drilling the hole for a threaded insert.

Any specific alloy to look for when sourcing filler metal?

This is how bad it is. The “filler” is jb weld but it’s too soft to support threads.

Is it hard enough to use a helicoil inside. ? If you maybe used a dab more jb or epoxy to hold the coil in place? I’ve gotta do some tapping of some sort on a 288
