Just got my 361 from hl supply and started building. Got the crank pulled in and piston and jug on. Squish came in at .021

Looks good, did you use any oem parts? Or did anything not fit right?
No oem parts. The only issue with fit was the piston wrist pin bosses needed a little clearence on the inside with a Dremel. They would not allow the piston to swivel on the bearing

Got the chain tensioner parts installed. Had a heck of a time getting this saw to run then I noticed gas was pouring out of the carb into the air filter.

I checked the metering lever it appears to be set right. Cleaned everything up put it back together and got the same thing again.

Tank vent is good. Anybody got a guess what to check next?

Umm, got any pics, just thinking out loud here... is the carb gasket and diaphragm set in the correct place. Ie gasket on carb body and diaphragm on top. And is the spring sitting correct thus the correct pop off pressure is on the leaver and needle is sitting correctly

The Hutzl 361 I build had massive flooding issues. The metering spring was quite a bit different than OEM. I installed the new spring and a rebuild kit and it ran great. Installing a 391 carb is also a good mod for these ad can often be purchased for less than the spring and rebuild kit.

Can get it to start and get carb set but after running it for 10 minutes it will flood on a restart almost immediately.

I did a 361 build. I did a base gasket delete, big bore kit, muffler mod, china carb for a 390. 195 psi compression. Runs great. Will pull a 25" bar well. Check your tank vent. Mine was bad and others have had vent probs with the kits

Try the lever at .030 below flush. I can't tell from the last picture its actual position.
Edit, I checked my notes and .047 is what worked for me.

I would definitely lower the lever down a little bit like van462 said and I would make sure that the choke is working properly because they will play havoc on you big time.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try to get in the shop tonight and lower the metering lever and double check the tank vent and choke.

I lowered the metering lever to 35 thousands and checked to be sure the choke was disengaging which it is. The fuel tank and vent tested good.

Same issue so I ordered a rebuild kit for the carb.

you can get a china ms361 carb from fleabay for less than 20 bucks. Swap the carb out to see if problem changes. The china carb on my 361 works fine. Just recently cut and bucked 3 good size ash trees. About 6 tanks of gas with no problems.

Got the rebuild kit in today. Before rebuild carb held 8 psi but I couldn’t get it to pop off my tester only goes to 30 psi. After rebuild metering lever set at 30 thousands under flush holds 8 psi and pops off at 22 psi and reseats at 9 psi and holds. Saw started after 6 pulls. Set idle at 2990 and wide open at 12500. It now restarts while hot without flooding. Gonna tune it in some wood tomorrow.

I did a ms 361 from farmertec I had three issues first the piston didn’t have enough clearance was contacting the crank on the inside 2nd inside piston not enough to rotate connecting rood. 3 rd tank vent was bad. Vibrated so bad took out the top vibration mount. After these issues were sorted out. It turned out to be a decent saw. Just put a bad taste at first

When i did the base gasket delete both the stock and big bore cylinders had a few thousandths interference with the crank. A little filing fixed it. The stock piston skirt hit the crank but the big bore piston didn't. Had to modify the tank vent to make it work. Flippy gas cap leaked and replaced with OEM. Gutted the muffler and advanced timing. Has 195psi compression. Had to modify the decomp because it kept popping the plastic caps off. Tuned to 12500 it is a dog tuned to 13000-13500 it is a different saw and kicks butt. One loud mofo though. Had to replace the clutch side seal because some guy messed up the seal when he put the case together. Whoever he was:rolleyes:

Had the clutch side seal go out yesterday. Was cutting some ash and it went lean. I shut it down right away cant see any damage. Replaced the seal this morning and shes back running again.
